Vitamin D and #PetitsFilousGoodness

POD loved Petits Filous the moment she tried them and they’ve been a firm favourite ever since. Whether it’s tucking into one of the Little Pots or pairing it with fresh fruit. Her preferred choices are apple, banana, strawberries or raspberries depending on what flavour Petits Filous she’s picked. Now she’s older she enjoys Petits Filous Big Pots too whether after a meal or as part of a packed lunch. Typically this is on a Saturday when she has Stagecoach Performing Arts plus of course whenever we take a picnic out. Petits Filous pots and pouches can survive out of the fridge for up to five hours so they’re an ideal snack for our little adventurer.

Petits Filous is a great way to ensure POD gets nutrients like calcium and vitamin D which she needs to strengthen her bones and teeth while keeping her muscles healthy. We all know sunshine is the main source of vitamin D but POD is often covered in SPF50 or wearing a sunsuit. Vitamin D deficiency has been caused by SPF50 so she needs vitamin D in her diet as well as it absorbs calcium.

A recent UK scientific review on vitamin D, along with Public Health England, advises that everyone over four years of age needs an average daily intake of 10 micrograms of vitamin D to help support healthy bones, teeth and muscles*. As a parent there needs to be a good balance between sun-safe vitamin D and understanding the dietary sources. This is especially important from September to March when we can be outside less often.

Each serving of Petits Filous, two little pots or one big pot, contains 50% of the Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) vitamin D per portion on the core range. The sugar content of Petits Filous has been decreased too but thankfully the same taste remains. We’d know if there was any difference there. It means POD can easily get a fix of calcium and vitamin D even if we’re away from home. We’re an outdoorsy kind of family anyway but with it being summer holidays, we’re out even more. It’s so easy to pop a Petits Filous into our bag along with a tuna or egg sandwich and an apple.

I’m working with Petits Filous and BritMums in a paid relationship promoting the #PetitsFilousGoodness campaign about the importance of vitamin D in our children’s diets. Visit petitsfilous.co.uk for more information.

Oh gosh she loves Petits Filous Charlotte, honestly she’d eat them all day if she could. We managed to escape before the rain came, nothing like blowing away the cobwebs and having a little picnic 🙂
