Surrey’s enchanting sculpture park

Nestled in woodland in Churt, near Farnham is The Sculpture Park. It’s the world’s largest sculpture exhibition which showcases 650 sculptures by 300 sculptors. The exhibits are continually changing so there is always something new to discover with almost all sculptures for sale. It really is one of Surrey’s hidden gems as POD and I discovered when we visited.

#UKexplore in July 2019

What with it being busy at work and the end of the school year (how has POD finished Year 3 already?!), July seemed to pass in a flash. That said, we managed to squeeze in a trip to Cornwall to visit JD’s uncle. He’s just a few minutes walk from Perranporth beach which is just idyllic. Perfect for POD and a wonderful place to take a step back, relax and appreciate the important things in life. We had glorious weather too which always helps doesn’t it?

National Trust: Events in Surrey this summer

We love that there are so many National Trust properties to explore in Surrey. What’s more, there are LOADS of brilliant events coming up during the summer holidays (and into October half term) suitable for children of varying ages. Here’s a handy list of which National Trust properties you can visit in Surrey and a taste of what’s happening at each over the coming weeks.

The sanctuary of Frensham Little Pond

We’re truly spoiled having so many National Trust sites to visit, not just the abundance we have in Surrey but in nearby London, Hampshire and Sussex. With the school holidays fast approaching, we’ll no doubt be ticking a few more National Trust places we’ve not explored off the list. We do enjoy returning to our favourites too and the beautiful Frensham Little Pond is certainly one of those.

What’s on in Surrey over half-term?

We really are spoilt for choice when it comes to things to do in Surrey. And with half-term around the corner, there’s even more on offer. We’re lucky to have both Chessington and Thorpe Park in the county with farms, National Trust sites and museums within easy reach too. Here’s just a taste of what you can expect this May half-term.

#UKexplore in March 2019

The #UKexplore hashtag on Instagram was introduced by Karen and Rachel back in April 2016. I stepped in for Rachel in around June 2017 to co-host with Karen and do date over 39,850 photographs have been tagged. Pretty incredible isn’t it?

Where young children can cycle in Surrey

We always hear about great cycle routes in Surrey. The challenge comes when you’re not all on bikes and therefore don’t need a full on cycling trail. POD has come on leaps and bounds with her cycling since she got her new bike at Christmas. With us mostly on foot, we’ve been on the hunt for places that are great for her to enjoy the independence cycling brings but not too challenging for the two of us! Here are our favourites so far.

National Trust: 15 places to visit in Surrey

We’ve been members of the National Trust for many years now. We joined after moving from London to Surrey and with so much choice available, National Trust membership really is a no brainer for the Dove family. We’ve got to explore a number of places over recent years, many of which we’ve returned to, and there’s still a wealth of discoveries to be made locally and in nearby counties. Here’s a taste of what’s on offer in Surrey.

Cycling at Virginia Water

I honestly can’t remember the last time we were at Windsor Great Park, we’ve been long overdue a visit that’s for sure! With nearly 5,000 acres to explore and a royal history spanning a thousand years, there’s no shortage of things to do.

There are historical monuments, ancient forests and horticultural displays aplenty. What’s more, William the Conqueror adopted the landscape as his hunting ground, Queen Victoria used the shores of Virginia Water for entertaining and the Duke of Edinburgh is a current Ranger. In 2018, thousands of people lined the Long Walk to await the carriage procession of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
