From Après Animals to The Unstoppables!

One of the great things about having children is being able to share the things you love with them. POD turns five on Christmas Day and we’ve earmarked 2016 as the year to introduce her to something that between us we’ve enjoyed for over 30 years, skiing.

We’re fully aware it’ll be a very different experience from the ski holidays we’ve enjoyed before, which have been as notable for their off piste activities as on. We’re in no doubt however that it’ll be just as much if not more fun with her! With this in mind I thought back to the start of one particularly memorable ski trip compared with a family holiday in the sun this year.

#CarnivalFiesta with Thomas Cook Airlines

What better way for Thomas Cook Airlines to celebrate the build up to February’s Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife than with a Carnival Fiesta! And with Barrio East’s flagship cocktail bar the venue, it brought a slap of Latino (or Spanish in this case) to a truly awesome night.

Truth be told I have a bit of a thing for carnivals – the colour, the flamboyant outfits and of course the party atmosphere! When I first moved to London way back in 1989 (yes I know I’m that old!), I lived in Maida Vale. The top of our road was on the Notting Hill Carnival route which meant we could get involved in all the celebrations and every day. I always wanted to join a float but I’m not sure my Eighties get up fitted the theme!

A Devon break with holidaycottages.co.uk

From the sandy beaches of Woolacombe, the coastal town of Ilfracombe to the wooded valleys of Exmoor, North Devon has so much to offer. I recently spent a weekend there, with 13 other bloggers, courtesy of holidaycottages.co.uk.

With 30 years experience, holidaycottages.co.uk has cottages by the sea, on the moors or in the city. Our accommodation was Lympscott Barn, one of their larger properties, set in a 300 acre dairy farm and surrounded by beautiful scenery. Located just a few miles from the villages of Kilkhampton and Bradworthy, it’s perfectly positioned if you’re looking to explore the North Devon and Cornwall coast.

An explosion of colour at Winkworth

Even when the rain is bashing against the window, you can’t help but love autumn. I’m a huge fan of colour and it pleases me greatly to see those hues of red, orange and gold. Our lawn is littered with beautiful red leaves. I’ve no idea where they came from but they bring a smile to my face every morning.

Golf with Monarch

With a large proportion of family members already golfers, it stands to reason I’d have taken up the sport years ago. But for whatever reason it hasn’t happened. Instead I’ve cheerfully pursued ball sports I’m already familiar with, such as tennis. When Monarch asked if I’d like to participate in a golfing experience at N1 Golf in London, I was a little apprehensive. There was tapas and wine tasting on offer so I agreed on the basis a couple of drinks would certainly improve my game. Its worked when I’ve played pool in the past.

Photos from Audresselles and Wimereaux

Our recent trip to France saw us head up the coast to see what the Côte d’Opale had to offer. Although more popular now than it once was, this little known part of France has much to offer. We saw bomb craters from World War II, an obelisk to commemorate the Dover Patrol and heard about the guns beneath the lake at Cap Blanc Nez.

Running down the sandbanks in Wissant

One of the places we visited on our recent trip to France was Wissant. It’s a pretty seaside town located in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, just over 10 miles away from Boulogne and about the same distance away from Calais. The town is one of the last fishing villages in France that uses a traditional method of fishing using a flobart (wooden boat).

Photos from Cap Blanc Nez, Côte d’Opale

This weekend saw us travel to Northern France to see what the Côte d’Opale had to offer. Our first stop was Cap Blanc Nez (‘Cape White Nose’) which is one of the two caps, the other being Cap Griz Nez. Listed since 1987, it’s part of the network of Great Sites of France along with Navacelles, the Gorges du Verdon, the city of Carcassonne and the Bay of Mont Saint Michel.

Taking in our surroundings

It’s not often you get to just stop and take it all in. But that’s exactly what we did last weekend while we were at Whipsnade Zoo.

If you head left up the road after the lions in the Africa, there is the most incredible view of the English countryside. It was such a glorious day too you could see for miles and miles.

POD looked morphed by her surroundings but it was so apt to think the world is her oyster at the same time. Especially as she recently started school. She seems to be enjoying it as she’s happy to be dropped off every day. She’s not giving us much although her first full day of school and after school club was only this week.
