Running down the sandbanks in Wissant

One of the places we visited on our recent trip to France was Wissant. It’s a pretty seaside town located in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, just over 10 miles away from Boulogne and about the same distance away from Calais. The town is one of the last fishing villages in France that uses a traditional method of fishing using a flobart (wooden boat).

It’s also known by the Parisians as the mecca of surfing due to the frequent and favourable winds. Evident by the hundreds of kite surfers and surfers along the length of the beach. What a sight though, I’ve never seen so many in one place!

It wasn’t the day for a paddle (especially with all the action on the water) and it was too windy to build sandcastles but POD spotted huge sandbanks further up the beach.

With the sand deliciously soft, POD took it upon herself to climb to the top of the dunes then run down them. She scampered up then and sped down at least four times displaying the funniest of facial expressions! And falling in a heap at the bottom.

It was inevitable she’d lose her balance at some point which she did just after this photograph was taken. What great fun she had though!

We finished up with a well earned lolly before heading back to Calais. Sometimes the simplest things are just the best!

[…] Having made the most of our time at Ambleteuse, we headed over to Wissant which was littered with kite surfers and kites. With it being low tide, it was teaming with people enjoying the last of the autumn sunshine. POD especially loved the carousel and running down the most enormous sandbanks. […]
