Pancakes and Netflix

We’re huge fans of Netflix and with the help our now six year old, we’re collating a list of must sees for kids. POD adores Netflix Originals like Veggie Tales, Beat Bugs (with music from the Beatles) and Dawn of the Croods although she loves the likes of Harry and a Bucket full of Dinosaurs, Norm on the North and the Book of Life too.

With Shrove Tuesday rapidly approaching, the lovely folk at Netflix kindly sent POD some pancake mix and decorations so she could make her own creations. She always enjoys spending time in the kitchen and while I cooked the pancakes she relished in mixing the ingredients together. With the first batch made, she got to work with a tub of decorations that included little stars, Smarties-like sweets and hundreds & thousands. Once they were in place, she set about with the icing too.

As you can imagine much silliness followed the pancake making! POD totally got caught helping herself to hundreds & thousands while I was making the next batch of pancakes too! She claimed she’d not had any but it was quite obvious that wasn’t the case! We had the best time making pancakes and it was great to get a practice run in before Tuesday.

After all the pancake excitement and filling our faces, it was time to calm down a bit with a great movie on Netflix. New films available to see this February include Annie, The Furchester Hotel and Fantastic Mr Fox. We opted for the latter which is based on the Roald Dahl favourite.

Directed by Wes Anderson, it is voiced by a whole host of stars such as George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, Michael Gambon, and Owen Wilson. It tells the story of a reckless fox who steals food each night from mean and wealthy farmers. The sour-faced farmers try to capture Mr Fox and dig their way to his home but the animals outwit them and live underground. It’s a superb film, and visually great to watch with its co-ordinating colours and stop-motion animation. We loved it.
