The POD Father and I were both well traveled before we met. I spent two years living and working in Australia in my twenties whilst my husband went back-packing around SE Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji around the same time. He also went on holiday to Lebanon and Syria in 2002 – sadly not a trip you could repeat today.
Our holidays together were very much a combination of adventure and activity. We enjoyed some fantastic trips close to home and as far afield as New Zealand.
South America had been on our list of must visit places for a while when we took a holiday to Venezuela. The purpose of the trip was to see Angel Falls, the highest waterfall in the world and only accessible by boat and then a hike through the jungle.
Whilst in Canaima National Park, we also walked behind the waterfall (top right) thought to be the one featured in Last of the Mohicans.
When we visited New Zealand for a friend’s wedding we took the opportunity to experience one of the World’s top day walks – The Tongariro Crossing. It did practically finish us off though.
After three days of wedding celebrations we weren’t particularly well prepared for the 19km walk through three active volcanoes! The Devil’s Staircase broke me although the Emerald Lakes were breathtaking.
Nowadays our adventures are much closer to home. As a family we have the best time exploring new places and re-discovering the old. It’s not to say there aren’t adventures to be had further afield at some point in the future!
Linking up with The Gallery at Sticky Fingers. The prompt this week is adventure.
My brother lived in New Zealand for 7 years before moving on to Australia. Beautiful country, I would LOVE to go!
Oh how wonderful. We traveled a lot before the boys were born, but have never spent any extended time abroad. I would love too. perhaps we will do an OAP gap year
oh wow!!! you are both very well traveled indeed. i must say that my husband has me beat in that department. what beautiful places and pictures. i want/need more adventure in my life….
Stunning photographs! What wonderful experiences. #theGallery
wow, amazing pictures and trips, the worlsdis full of lovely places i wish one day i will be able to travel to most of them
wow Charly you are like an adventure seeker you have done far more than i ever did 🙂 xx
Some stunning photos, especially of the waterfalls! I have to say I’m not well travelled at all, I’m a home bird but these look amazing x
My husband has always wanted to go to New Zealand, the flight would be a bit daunting for me but once there I would love it. At the moment I’m planning on lots of small city breaks with the family and ease me back into flying. x
Oh how gorgeous! I haven’t been ‘proper traveling’ but we have been to India, South Africa and Chile. Post kids? Cornwall, we enjoy it just as much though!
Those are proper adventures! Fabulous pictures and fantastic memories. I have done nothing adventurous in my life.
That water fall is incredible; you’ve had the most amazing adventures! X
Amazing pictures! I wish I had travelled more, what fab experiences x
Brilliant collection of photos Charly, the top one is my absolute favourite 🙂
Wow, you’ve been to some amazing places! I hope the future brings you lots more excitement with your children too.
You know I quite fancied the sound of Angel Falls until I looked at how high it was in your picture!
What beautiful photos – it looks like a great place. Definitely a great adventure!
Wow you have had some amazing adventures and have captured some fantastic photographs! x
Wow how amazing – I would love to have travelled more (sadly travelling does not agree with me though) so I do love looking at others adventures 🙂 x
The Devils Staircase looks amazing. We hope to do our travelling once the kids are older!
Wow, that is a brilliant adventure! My adventures mostly led me round the dodgy clubs of Europe when I used to go on tour….but like you, these days adventures are much closer to home and more child friendly!
Oh I so wish I had travelled when I was younger!
What an amazing adventure to look back on. We got lots of travelling in before the little one arrived and for now we are very happy to have adventures here in the UK but I am sure that we will travel much further afield as a family in the future. I am not sure what we would do but in the next few years I would love to start with some short city breaks in Europe to give the little one a feel for other cultures and countries without having to get on a plane.
Super jealous of your adventure! I can’t wait to get out there and really explore the world too.
stunning pictures! makes me really want to travel! x
I am always telling myself that it is not about how far you travel but what is your state of mind while doing so…
You could have a real adventure if your local park… if you chose so… am I right?
We’d love to go to South America some day and I’ve skied on Tongariro but not done the day walk. Friends have though, and they say it’s fierce.
I wish my husband and i had time to travel together before having the girls. We honeymooned in Mauritius but to be honest, we stayed on the resort so could have been anywhere. I am desperate for travel and adventure but we will do all that when the girls leave home x
Wow a true adventure
Wow you’ve been to some gorgeous places. I’m especially jealous of the waterfalls you’ve seen as I adore waterfalls!
How amazing to have done so much travelling, very lucky! Stunning photo’s x
It is great to see that you have had some great travelling adventures! I’d love to do all that but will have to wait until my children are a big older 🙂
