Capturing the scene

Now POD’s three she’ll often tell you what she’s doing and what she’s about to do. Unless you ask her what she did at nursery and her response will always be “nothing”.

POD loves to be outdoors and this woodland walk should have been no different. But it was. Perhaps it was that renewed sense of freedom.

Gone was the coat, the hat and the wellies, replaced with a dress that blew behind her as she ran. Her beloved muddy puddles had gone but there were sticks aplenty. For a time it was just us, wandering along the grass lined paths with the blue sky above and the sun beaming down.

When we reached a wide open space POD stopped on a bench surrounded by knobbly trees. She said she had a stone in her shoe.

Once back together, POD ran to another bench shouting “come on”, waving her arm as she went. She was convinced she was too far away to be photographed. But she wasn’t and a thoughtful looking POD was captured in the process.

She probably wasn’t thinking much but she looks like she’s pondering something. Unless she was just taking in her surroundings and enjoying the glorious sunshine.

It wasn’t long before she was off again, running round in circles, only stopping to watch the occasional butterfly. When she climbed onto another bench for an impromptu lie down, she didn’t notice I was there with my camera.

What a truly wonderful scene to capture.

Funnily enough POD has recently decided that jeggings are for boys and she wants to wear dresses. She has very few that fit now she’s had a growth spurt but this one was new πŸ™‚

  • Vikki Holness March 17, 2014 at 11:31 am

Charly, these photos are breathtakingly beautiful, not that i’d expect anything less from you. They have a real woodland fairytale feel to them and POD looks so pretty in her dress xxx

    • Charly Dove March 17, 2014 at 10:35 pm

That’s such a lovely thing to say Vikki, thank you. It’s so funny seeing POD running about her her white dress, she loved it!

  • Jen aka The Mad House March 17, 2014 at 1:40 pm

What a lovely story and POD is a beautiful girl. On the “nothing” response from nursery, I have some advice. We started to have a news round thing at dinnertime, with actions, songs and I would get the boys to pretend to be reporters and tell me their news from school and I would do the same (yes I am a loon)!

    • Charly Dove March 17, 2014 at 10:36 pm

Thank you Jen. That is such a great idea, I may well try that one πŸ™‚

  • Sonya Cisco March 17, 2014 at 1:42 pm

    • Charly Dove March 17, 2014 at 10:37 pm

  • Notmyyearoff March 17, 2014 at 2:09 pm

Ahh such contemplative photos – they definitely love not being restricted don’t they? I love her purple shoes and the white dress…and the background …and pretty much all those photos! πŸ™‚

    • Charly Dove March 17, 2014 at 10:39 pm

Thank you, they really are contemplative aren’t they! I’m sure that’s what it was, she was loaded with clothing! I’m sure those crocs won’t be fitting for much longer, she had them last summer. Useful for water play though πŸ™‚

  • Jenny March 17, 2014 at 2:21 pm

This is an absolutely stunning location for pictures. Lucky you to have found it and hopefully it’s a place you can go time and time again. I love these pictures. Your lil one is gorgeous too. These are just so stunning I am in awe of each and everyone of them. Fantastic livingarrows post!

Funnily enough we were going somewhere else but the traffic was so bad we went on a detour. This woodland is not known by many but it’s fabulous – my husband used to go as a child. Thank you for your lovely words πŸ™‚

  • Mammasaurus March 17, 2014 at 6:11 pm

Such pretty photos – she looks so lovely in that dress. It seems odd seeing her without her wellies!

    • Charly Dove March 17, 2014 at 10:43 pm

Thank you Annie. It’s lovely seeing her in a dress – so many clothes recently. She must have loved being without her wellies πŸ™‚

  • Iona@Redpeffer March 17, 2014 at 6:12 pm

Such a beautiful collection of images that tells the story perfectly. Wonderful. Oh and my eldest still tells me very little even at aged 7, whereas my 3 year old tells me everything in absolute detail! So funny how different they are.

    • Charly Dove March 17, 2014 at 10:44 pm

Thank you Iona. Isn’t it funny the different between sharing and not! At the moment she thinks it’s really funny to say nothing but I do hope that changes. We do get to know what she’s doing but it’s always better to hear it from her πŸ™‚

  • Nell@PigeonPairandMe.com March 17, 2014 at 7:49 pm

She looks so beautiful, stretched out on that gorgeous bench! This is definitely a shot to treasure. Funnily enough, when I ask Austin what he’s been doing at pre-school, his response is very similar to POD’s!

    • Charly Dove March 17, 2014 at 10:46 pm

It’s good to hear it’s not just POD saying she does nothing! I love that last photo, it was just so random lying on a bench like that. A wonderful capture though πŸ™‚

  • Bek March 17, 2014 at 9:22 pm

Beautiful photographs. My son also does ‘nothing’ when he is at school and he never did anything at Nursery either! ha ha! I love the photos of her laid down on the bench. I’m not sure why but it reminds me of Alice in Wonderland. Lovely.

    • Charly Dove March 17, 2014 at 10:48 pm

Thank you Bek. It’s funny how they say they do nothing isn’t it. Maybe they just don’t want us to know what they’re up to LOL πŸ™‚

  • Emmys Mummy March 17, 2014 at 9:45 pm

    Stunning photos.

It’s been so wonderful letting the kids run around contently outside in the warm sunshine again. I can’t wait to crack out the summer dress again

    • Charly Dove March 17, 2014 at 10:48 pm

Thank you. POD loves the outdoors but she’s really loved having a proper play in the garden. Must have been great running round in a dress πŸ˜‰
