This photograph always makes me laugh. Taken at Fakenham Racecourse in 2010, it’s a superb example of why you shouldn’t pull a face when there’s a camera on you. Lovely smiles from my mother and father-in-law with me acting the giddy goat!
We were at this racecourse for the Point-to-Point event which is amateur horseracing over fences with thoroughbred horses. It promised to be a great day out.
It really was too. We had the odd flutter and jumped for joy when the horse we’d placed a bet on crossed the line first. Luck was on my side that day as I scored a hat-trick!
Like many others, we enjoyed lunch in the Fakenham Racecourse car park. With the car acting as a wind shield, we enjoyed a wonderful picnic. Today wasn’t the day the cold was going to dampen our spirits!
What makes this photograph special, and may explain the facial expression, is that we were pregnant. We’d found out just over a week before it was taken. No-one else knew.
POD arrived exactly nine months after our visit to Fakenham Racecourse, on 25th December 2010.

Ahhhh lovely photo and very special time too. Weirdly the OH and I were saying at the weekend that we’d only just found out I was pregnant this time four years ago. I only remember because it’s a day or so around my brothers birthday. How time flies ey?
How funny! It’s amazing how time flies it really is. Can’t believe POD was three at Christmas and all of sudden doesn’t look like a toddler anymore!
That’s a lovely story. Knowing you were pregnant and it was a secret probably made a day that would otherwise be forgotten very memorable!
Thank you Sarah. It was definitely a memorable day, good fun and I never win anything either!
Ah, that is a lovely story, and a brilliant photo x
Thank you Jocelyn, I’m not looking my best mind 🙂
A lovely story behind the picture, being Pregnant with Pod this will have been a special time. We took the kids to the races a few weeks ago, will be my Country Kids post for Saturday.
Brilliant can’t wait to read that post, bet you had lots of fun! It was a good time and I always like to pull funny faces 🙂
I can feel the energy from you in this picture!
Aww thank you Merlinda 🙂
I love the time between finding out and telling people. Where we have to keep it a secret but we are so excited we want to scream it from the roof tops. Anyone that knows us knows something is up with our cheesy grins and our perma smiles from ear to ear ! Photo is great with parents. Sounds like a lovely day together.
That’s very true Jenny, was a bit hairy at first but those days passed by. Then there is just that overwhelming sense of relief and you don’t have to explain why you’re not having wine! Was a great day out, thank you 🙂
That’s a lovely photo and great that you had a little secret that no one else knew!
Thank you Laura, it’s an attractive face too 🙂
This is ace! I have only ever been to Cheltenham races and it poured with rain on a work do! So want to go to Ascot one day too xx
Thank you Lucy. Such a shame it rained when you went. I’ve not been to Ascot either, be great to go definitely 🙂
Love this pic-I’m always pouting (have been since I was a child)-looks like a fab day! #whatsthestory
Thank you – we all love a good pout! I bet yours is ace 🙂
No wonder you looked giddy! I’d probably pull the same face if I were in that situation too 🙂 I remember feeling so happy when we did the pregnancy test at around 6am and it came out positive. We’ve been trying for more than a year and then it happened! Yay 🙂
That’s such a lovely story Dean. I must stop pulling faces, it’s really not attractive!
Great pic and lovely story to go with it 🙂
Thank you very much Karen 🙂
Oh I used to love a day at the races! My ex-boyfriend and his circle of friends were very keen and we lived very close to Sandown Park and Kempton but I also visited Goodwood and Epsom and the best of all was the Prix de L’Arc De Triumph at the Boix de Boulougne in Paris! That was a fab long weekend away with similar picnics by cars. Finding out you are pregnant (when you’ve been trying!) is one of the most amazing feelings so I bet you were on a bit of a high there too!! Nice to finally link up again – I just keep forgetting!
Oh wow that must have been amazing to be in Paris, how wonderful. Funnily enough we’re not far from Sandown now as we’re in Surrey, must look into going one day. You’re so right, finding out your pregnant is the best 🙂
The photo made me smile, the story even more so xx
Thank you Sara 🙂
Hehe, that’s a great shot it made me smile! Lovely that you had your little secret reason for being so happy 🙂
Thank you Lou, hiding it well don’t you think – no silly behaviour at all!
You do look very happy in that picture!
Thank you Iona – it was a great day too 🙂
Great photo and how wonderful to have a special secret memory captured that way too #whatsthestory
Thank you Mary, it really is 🙂
Great photo – these are the sort of photos I really love – showing the real fun of a situation. Nice to know there’s a little secret tucked in there as well. #whatsthestory
Awww x but it is funny eh! *sniggers* I have plenty like this with my husband pulling some stupid face… I don’t find those quite so funny… ha! xx
I love it….What is really behind this picture – your joy at having found out you were pregnant. Awesome. X
Love this photo
I love this photo, everyone looks so happy! A perfect picture to remember your little secret at the time too!
