The Doves are a family of adventurers and we love to explore the great outdoors whenever we get the chance. Seven-year-old POD always enjoys creating treasure maps too so she was thrilled to hear we were going on an #OreoCookieQuest. If you’ve not heard about this yet, delicious cookie brand Oreo has launched an exciting on-pack competition and interactive cookie quest – you can play just by purchasing a promotional pack of Oreos. You could win a VIP trip to San Fransisco, explore the Wonderfilled city and experience the technology of tomorrow at GooglePlex in the Silicon Valley! Not only that, to celebrate those wonderfilled family moments, we’ve re-created our own scavenger hunt in this post which could win you a £100 Virgin Experience voucher!
So our original getaway plans were thwarted but we opted to do something just as exciting. And far more entertaining. Who knew finding hiding places for Oreos in the forest would be so much fun? It was bitterly cold but the sun shone brightly, the skies were blue and we wore giant smiles. Alice Holt Forest is a great spot for walking, playing and cycling. POD has been learning to ride a bike without stabilisers recently – the forest has been great for mastering those steering and braking skills! You can do Go Ape here too which we relished having a go at last summer. This time around, we were on foot – our quest to find suitable places to hide Oreos. After we’d grabbed a quick bite at the new cafe of course.
It’s the best feeling in the world blowing away a few cobwebs and while we both resembled the Michelin man all layered up (it was minus 2 degrees), we were in good spirits relishing the winter sunshine. Heading off the paths meant we made all kinds of discoveries, we even saw a bat on our travels! As you can imagine POD took her role of finding hiding places for Oreo’s very seriously. There isn’t an Oreo in every photo either so you need to be beady-eyed to find all ten. Some are really obvious (like the one below) and a couple you *might* need to look a little harder for.
There are lots of different routes to take at Alice Holt and we particularly enjoy the play trails when we’re walking. The Habitat Trail has an array of giant forest creatures to explore from a wooden woodpecker to an owl, a bat and a moth. There’s even a bridge guarded by snakes! There’s also a new network of tunnels which is brilliant fun as it makes kids feel like they’re a rabbit in a warren or a badger in its sett. POD loved this area and found it highly entertaining hiding and popping out where I was least expected her to be. It was just the two of us on this trip as Daddy had a new ‘man chair’ delivered for his big birthday next week.
We ventured off the trail a few times too, giggling as we went and larking around. Truth be told we probably had rather too much fun if that’s even possible! Playing hide and seek was a winner, as was hiding Oreos from each other – we unintentionally had a brilliant scavenger hunt while we were creating one for you.
We got lost at Alice Holt once (we weren’t following a specific trail!) so we played it safe this time around. Turning back when the people dwindled and we couldn’t hear the sound of children laughing any longer. It was blissfully peaceful though. Just goes to show you can have a great day out whatever you decide to do. We enjoy these kinds of days as well as taking bigger trips at the likes of Longleat, Warner Brothers and Legoland.

It’s fab isn’t it! We love being outdoors, nothing better than that fresh country air 🙂
We adore Alice Holt but haven’t been for a couple of years (I think the Stick Man trail was the last time we visited). Always a nice quiet spot to be found and the play park is cool, Big Pirate Ship gets most of the attention!
It’s a great place to lose a few hours isn’t it Angela. My daughter loves the pirate ship too although it’s quite busy there as there’s a new cafe been built nearby. Lots of new adventure play areas though and trails – The Gruffalo and the Highway Rat are there currently 🙂
Nothing like exploring the great outdoors and play trails! What a lovely forest!
