Star from Disney+ launched recently bringing with it over 75 TV series, 280 movies and a slate of four exclusive Star Originals. Fully integrated into the Disney+ platform, Star joins movies, shows, shorts and originals from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic.
Star has thousands of hours of content from Disney’s creative studios including Disney Television Studios (20th Television and ABC Signature), FX Productions, 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures. Star from Disney+ is the exclusive new home of Star Originals. With thrillers, comedies and dramas to crime, action and horror, it offers something for everyone with hidden gems that can’t be watched anywhere else. Here’s a taste of what to expect from the Star Originals.
Big Sky
Big Sky is a thriller by the visionary storyteller David E. Kelley of Big Little Lies fame. Private detectives Cassie Dewell and Cody Hoyt join forces with his estranged wife and ex-cop, Jenny Hoyt, to search for two sisters who were kidnapped by a trucker on a remote highway in Montana. When they discover these are not the only girls to have disappeared locally, they must race to stop the killer before another woman is taken.
Love, Victor
From the creators of Love, Simon and inspired by the film, this series follows the story of Victor. A new student at Creekwood High School, Victor is on a journey of self-discovery facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city and struggling with his sexual orientation. When it all seems too much, Victor reaches out to Simon for help in navigating the ups and downs. The film’s original writers Issac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger (This Is Us) are Executive Producers.
Solar Opposites
Solar Opposites is a comedy animation by Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan (Rick and Morty). It focuses on a family of four aliens who escape their exploding home world, only to crash land into a house in suburban America. Evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome, their mission is to protect Pupa, a living supercomputer, that one day will evolve into its true form, consume them and terraform the Earth!
Helstrom
As the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer, this horror thriller follows Daimon (Tom Austen) and Ana Helstrom (Sydney Lemmon), and their complicated dynamic, as they track down the worst of humanity — each with their own attitude and skills.
New to Star
Other Star Originals include the series drama Next about a Silicone Valley pioneer who joins forces with a special agent to stop the A.I. he created from destroying the world. Love in the Time of Corona a romantic “dramedy” that follows four interwoven stories. Dollface a comedy about a young woman who, after being dumped by her long term boyfriend, has to deal with her own imagination when she rekindles the relationships she left behind.

American Horror Stories is a new anthology series from Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning producer Ryan Murphy, spun off from FX’s biggest, longest-running original drama hit American Horror Story.
Only Murders In The Building follows three strangers (played by Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez) who share an obsession with true crime and find themselves wrapped up in one. Dopesick is an ambitious, harrowing, and compelling look into the epicentre of America’s struggle with opioid addiction, taking viewers from a distressed Virginia mining community to the hallways of the DEA, and to the opulence of “one-percenter” Big Pharma Manhattan. The series stars Michael Keaton, Peter Sarsgaard, Michael Stuhlbarg, Will Poulter, John Hoogenakker, with Kaitlyn Dever and Rosario Dawson. Finally, The Dropout chronicles the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes and her company, Theranos. The series will explore what caused the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire, once heralded as “the next Steve Jobs,” to lose everything in the blink of an eye.

New parental controls
The launch of Star from Disney+ has brought with it new robust easy to use parental controls to ensure the platform remains a family-friendly experience. The main account holder can now set bespoke age-appropriate ratings to each profile (6+, 9+, 12+, 14+, 16+ or 18+). There’s also the option to add a PIN to lock profiles that have access to content with a higher age rating. This works really well and means ten-year-old POD doesn’t have access to content she’s not old enough to watch.
