We recently holidayed in Greece with Mark Warner at the Levante Beach Resort (read our post here). Located in Rhodes, it is a custom-designed five-star resort which offers state-of-the-art tennis and watersports in addition to a purpose-built childcare centre. We were thrilled to get back into playing the game we adore and you can read our tennis at Levante Beach Resort post here. The excellent childcare facilities meant it was possible to play tennis and check out the watersports too. Although just a few hours each morning, it meant we were able to do our own thing while POD did activities like sailing that she wouldn’t normally get the opportunity to do.
Sailing
The resort is perfectly suited to sailing with fantastic conditions for both beginners and intermediates due to the varied wind strengths. There’s a gentle breeze that blows from the North West in the morning which switches to a stronger onshore sea breeze. Between May and September, the Meltemi wind provides lighter winds for beginners and exhilarating sailing for the more experienced. The waterfront is open 6 days a week in the off-peak season and 7 days a week in peak season from 9am to 5.30pm.
There is a team of around 20 watersport instructors with group sessions available in addition to Royal Yachting Association courses and private tuition. There are a wealth of kit to choose from including Laser Bugs, Laser Funboats, Laser Picos, Lasers, Topper Xenons, Topper Vibes, Topper CX16’s and RS 500’s. In addition to six RS Quba dinghies which offer an alternative to the Laser Pico.
My husband attended the introduction to sailing tuition clinic with a few others and got to set sail himself following the watersports briefing. Lasting three hours in total, it’s completely free.
He learnt the basic skills and got to sail a Laser Pico. He thoroughly enjoyed it and would have loved to have done more sailing (we played a lot of tennis!).
An hour’s refresher course is also free if you’re looking to brush up on your skills. If you’d prefer to progress your sailing skills to include race techniques, trapezing, asymmetrics and catamaran sailing, the improver sailing clinic (free of charge) consists of 5x 1½ hours over the duration of your week. There are also a range of RYA sailing courses and tuition to choose from for adults (from £70 per week) and children aged 6+ (from £50 per week). Private tuition is available from £50 for an hour.
Windsurfing
Levante Beach Resort has the latest range of equipment on offer for guest use including small Freeride and Starboard carve boards with a range of sails. An additional 15 boards have been added to the windsurf stocks – Starboard Futura, Kode and Flare boards for racers, freeride and freestyle sailors with Go boards to make the progression to intermediate that much easier for the beginners and improvers.
Group windsurfing lessons and clinics are free. The 3 hour introduction to windsurfing includes learning the basics, how to turn 180 degrees and sailing across the wind. There is also a refresher for those looking to brush up on skills already learnt. For improvers 5 x 1½ hour sessions cover beach starts, using a harness and foot straps, faster tacks and freestyle.
There are also a range of RYA windsurfing courses and tuition available for varying abilities. Adult courses (from £70) are for those looking to progress and gain a windsurfing qualification. For windsurfers aged between 10 and 13, the RYA youth windsurfing scheme is available from £50. This provides windsurfers with the basics right through to board set up, rigging and techniques for tackling stronger winds. Private tuition is also offer for adults and children of all levels with a maximum of 2 participants (£50 for 60 minutes).
Waterskiing & wakeboarding
Waterskiing and wakeboarding is run on a ‘pay as you go’ basis with instruction from the in-house ski team. A ten minute session on the water is €25. You can also try out ringos and a towable sofa if you fancy it!
Diving
There is a PADI scuba dive school at the Levante Beach Resort which offers a range of courses for beginners through to advanced divers. Qualified instructors provide PADI courses for adults from £99 and children (8+ years) from £199.
For new starters, this includes a free supervised trial dive in the pool.
Paddleboarding & kayaking
Paddleboarding is a lot of fun and easy to learn. As well as benefiting from a strong ‘core’ workout, you should find you’re more comfortable on your board within an hour or so. Starboard stand-up paddleboards are free to use as are the kayaks which provide you with a fun way to have a nose around the coastline.

Linking up with #whatsthestory here on PODcast.
This sounds amazing & our perfect holiday. With an active husband & 3 boys we need something to keep us busy! #whatsthestory
Wow! That sounds amazing! We really need to go on a holiday with built in childcare! #whatsthestory
I would love to try sailing again. I actually have a medal that I won in a schools competition for it, but it was a long time ago and I’d need to learn from scratch really.
Your photos bring back such happy memories of when we went in Kos. I’d love to do another holiday like this one day.
Looks brilliant, I haven’t done any sailing since I was a teenager! I love paddleboarding too, that’s great fun 🙂
we made the most of all this at Sea Garden last week – I did manage to fall off a Pico boat though, although had more luck kayaking and diving – never did find the tennis courts lol
