The Sorgenfresser Worry Eaters range

Now aged five POD usually tells us about any bad dreams if she remembers them clearly enough. The last one she had was quite vivid in that she recalled being on a pirate ship with Peppa Pig and everyone was being chased by a nasty witch. She didn’t seem overly concerned she was on board a pirate ship but understandably got upset about the witch. Thankfully the chasing was a one off although like everyone she does have bad dreams on occasions.

POD’s enjoying learning to write so Worry Eater Pomm was welcomed with open arms with pride of place above her bed. Worry Eaters are based on Gerd Hahn’s animation, Sorgenfresser, and act as a rubbish bin for all kinds of woes. All POD has to do is to write down her worry and feed it into Pomm’s zippy mouth. Designed to encourage children to open up about the fears they have, both big and small, Worry Eaters are a fun way to encourage conversation through writing and drawing.

POD initially wrote Pomm a note to introduce herself “Hello Worry Eater, my name is POD. Bye bye”. It’s wonderful that the Worry Eater is already encouraging her to write more, something she’s recently started to enjoy. We had quite a lengthy discussion after she’d popped her note in Pomm’s mouth around whether the Worry Eater was friends with the tooth fairy. It was agreed the tooth fairy was too busy collecting children’s teeth to worry about dreams although they’re probably good friends. POD believes her Worry Eater will stick each note she writes in a big book and look after it. All her notes will be transported by magic, as if there were any doubt.

The Worry Eaters range is growing this year with additions to the award-winning plush family and a collection of stationery and gifts for primary school aged children. The stationery and gifts range includes purses (RRP £5.49) which are based on Bill, Betti, Saggo and Om, pencil cases (RRP £8.49) based on Enno, Flint, Frula and Biff plus Frula and Flamm bags (RRP £8.99). All are created using the same super soft fabric as the plushes and feature the distinct zippy mouth for gobbling any worries.

The Worry Eaters Classic Range (RRP £20) has new characters in Pat, Sita and Lily – all are 32-40cm. Schnulli, and our favourite Pomm, standing 22-24cm tall, join the Junior Worry Eaters (RRP £12.50). Then for larger worries, there’s Giant Flint (RRP £200) at 97cm. All are suitable from age three upwards. Given how attached POD is to her Worry Eater already, I can see she’s going to have lots of fun with Pomm. I’m certain too it will encourage her to open up about any worries she has no matter how small.
