We didn’t know whether POD was going to be a girl or a boy although I was convinced she was going to be the latter. Her room was pretty generic as a result with blue check curtains and a similar chair albeit a paler shade. Everything else was an off white aside from three brightly coloured animal pictures providing that pop of colour. Several years on the ‘design’ of the room hasn’t particularly changed although it has accumulated more furniture. And stuff!
POD is a sociable five year old with a big character – we should expect nothing less from a child who insisted on arriving on Christmas Day! She has a superb imagination and she’s hugely creative too, her bedroom walls adorned with pictures as a result – A3 size I might add! We bought her a portfolio to keep them in but the best ones are always displayed, a bit like gallery. There are dinosaurs stuck to the wall too (she has a bit of a thing for those) and multiple stickers on a wardrobe. POD loves the outdoors and she’ll be the first up a tree but she’s also a girly girl and loves all things pretty. Her room has been in desperate need of a makeover for some time now. POD deserves a space that reflects who she is now, even her little bench style desk it too small for her to draw at comfortably. George Home (Asda’s home range) has launched an amazing competition which involves coming up with POD’s dream bedroom as part of their #GeorgeousRoomChallenge. We have an imaginary £400 to spend so we’ve put a lot of thought into how much of a difference we could make. Minus a new bed as she’s desperate for a bunk bed when she’s old enough!
We asked POD what she liked from the Kids range at George Home and she loves the vast majority. We have however opted for an owl and butterfly theme – a bit of bringing the outdoors in if you like. The George Home Owl single duvet (£10) is just adorable and we love the matching George Home Owl Rug (£9). The blue checked chair is great for storytelling but needs refreshing – the George Home Butterfly Throw (£15) being perfect for that. Her existing curtains obviously really have to go, these could be replaced with the George Home Butterfly Curtains (2x £16 each).
There’s a great range of fabulous bedroom accessories for both girls and boys available at George Home. We particularly love the Owl Wall Clock (£9) which would be a great way to help POD learn to tell the time. At the moment it’s usually 2.30pm or 8.30pm! The matching Owl Wall Hooks (x2 £9 each) are just beautiful, as is the George Home Owl Cushion (x2 £7 each). We also found the Flowers Fitted Sheet (£10 for two) which is just lovely.
POD really needs a comfortable place to draw so the Tic Tac Toe Desk (£90) and George Home Finlay Desk Chair (£55) are an absolute must. With the George Home Finlay Bedside Table (£45) and George Home Owl Night Light (£5) adding to a few finishing touches.
One thing that’s missing in POD’s room, which you will surprising given how many photographs I take, is pictures! She needs a collage of her favourites in a White Multi Mount Photo Frame (£12). A Faux Suede Heart Beanbag (£20) would be great to sit on to read her books. The George Home Owl String Lights (x2 £7 each) would be a welcome addition to her existing bed with the George Home Woven Heart Basket (£10) a superb way to keep soft toys and dollies tidy. Plus (not pictured) White Boxed Photo Frame (x3 £6 each) would be a great way to display her favourite artwork. Finally, the Plastic Storage Box (x2 £7 each) to store any clutter beneath her bed. The total cost for all the items shown in this post is £400 exactly so we’re spot on!
Thinking about how we could provide POD with a ‘proper’ bedroom was quite a daunting prospect. But pulling all the items together in a mood board on Pinterest has made it so much easier! You can check out everything we selected below.
What a gorgeous selection! POD would be absolutely in her element to be sleeping in such a colourful and inspiring room.
Thank you Susie, there are so many lovely things – would be so great for her to have a nicer bedroom 🙂
What a beautiful bedroom it would all make. I have to admit I would never think to look at George straight away for bedroom things but their stuff is so nice!
The owl theme would have been a big hit with my daughter when she was younger. I love the flower sheet too.
