We saw a neighbour with a Hetty vacuum cleaner the other day. This pleased POD greatly as she’d received her own Hetty, albeit the mop variety. Such was her excitement, she insisted on helping with the housework as soon as we returned from school. She’s not embarked on any mopping before which totally explains her choice of clothing!
That said, while I was dusting and vacuuming, she was quite happy ‘pretend’ mopping around her bedroom chatting to her toys as she went. The brightly coloured Hetty (and Henry) Mop & Bucket sets from Casdon are specifically designed to replicate the real thing. Both are suitable for children aged 3-6 years old, encouraging exploration, discovery and hand/eye co-ordination. The Hetty was super easy to assemble. All POD needed to do was screw the mop handle (it comes in two parts) and mop base together. The wringer fits nicely into the bucket and the handle clips in place. POD was pleased she was able to stick on Hetty’s ‘face’ herself.
Having given her toys a run down of how to clean and mop a house, POD decided she wanted to do some actual mopping. With the bucket half filled with water, she enthusiastically set about the hallway and then moved onto the bathroom. Still wearing her party dress! The whole process ended up being highly entertaining as she was so eager to get involved and took her role very seriously! Of course the floor will need a good going over but what a great life skill to learn – she had a ridiculous amount of fun. She really enjoyed us working together too.
