Hello everyone, welcome to week #62 of the Black and White Photography Project. Thank you so much to those of you that joined in last time.
This week I thought I’d share a few photographs from the Southampton Boat Show which kicked off on Friday. As well as seeing boats of all shapes and sizes from paddle boards to super yachts, there was also this. It’s a true, full size replica of the Cutty Sark scheduled for launch in 2019 – the 150th anniversary of the Cutty Sark.
The ‘Cutty Sark 2 Sail’ project is an international collaboration led by and experienced tall ship builder and captain Vladimir Martus of St Petersburg. The 85m, three masted Cutty Sark 2 will be built along original lines and traditional methods, which in itself is an extraordinary challenge, with most of the project team volunteers. The estimated cost for the project is estimated at €28 million.
There will be a post about the Southampton Boat Show going up in the next couple of days. In the meantime, here’s a sneaky peek at just some of what you can expect. The photograph below was taken from the Honda Big Wheel. Not being brilliant with heights, I’m not sure what possessed me to jump aboard and I was terrified at the top but the views were incredible.

I love the tall boats, they always look so majestic and this is an amazing replica of the Cutty Sark
Thanks for hosting your linky xx
The detail of the boat from a far and close up is wonderful, such a great subject for black and white.
I bet that was interesting. We’ve been on the original, a beautiful ship.
Beautiful photos! Amazing the attention to detail you can spot in black and white.
Wonderful photos, I do love old ships.
