Taking in the St Agnes views

It’s been a while since we ventured to Cornwall and it’s even more beautiful than I remember. We were down for POD’s Great Uncle’s 70th birthday which took place in Perranporth. The week leading up to it was certainly eventful as POD developed the red face associated slapped cheek syndrome. She then got poorly with an unrelated virus. That said we arrived in Cornwall on the Friday evening, bound for our Airbnb cottage in St Agnes.

I do love the concept of Airbnb, they have so many unique places to stay and all over the world too. Our accommodation for the weekend was a wonderful studio cottage which had stepping stones leading up to it. The hosts were really welcoming, even before we arrived, so we were swiftly in – taking full advantage of the Cornish treats they’d left for us. The cottage sleeps up to 4 so there was ample space for the Doves – a double bed plus double sofa bed, living space, well equipped kitchen and a bathroom with white fluffy towels.

We didn’t get to explore much of the St Agnes village but what we did see was stunning. Situated on the North Cornish coast, it’s an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and World Heritage Site. We headed to Driftwood Spars for dinner, which was amazing, spotting this gorgeous orange house from the nearby car park. We were planning on having a snack given it was late but ended up devouring the most superb meal. The ribeye steak with rustic chips, grilled tomato and mushroom with peppercorn sauce was far too tempting. We were going to skip pudding but when there’s baked chocolate mousse with salted caramel and whisky ice-cream, willpower is sadly amiss.

The cottage was traditionally decorated and pretty much had everything we needed (even coffee) too. POD woke up quite early on Saturday but with the blue sky visible through the velux windows, it was a great opportunity to explore the nearby coastal path. Access to it was literally a couple of minutes way away from the cottage. POD took along her pretend telescope although she really didn’t need it. We followed a little path through the gorse and were quickly rewarded with the most spectacular scenery. It really felt like we were on top of the world especially with no-one else around.

As we were heading over to Perranporth to meet everyone else, we didn’t venture down to the beach but instead cut back on ourselves towards the cottage. In doing so of course having a little look round the local area. Quiet country lanes, magnificent scenery and beautiful houses. POD seems to look about 12 in these photos (don’t ask me what that pose is!), she’s growing up way too fast. We loved what we saw of St Agnes. It’s no wonder our hosts, originally from London like us, had upped sticks and moved there.
