The Alphabet Project | I is for inspired

Hello everyone and welcome to letter I of the Alphabet Photography Project.

This week was an easy one just because something awesome happened. On Sunday 8th March, I joined a group of ‘honkers’ (the Team Honk posse) and over 2,000 others for a very special Comic Relief Challenge – a six hour danceathon!

The dance style and teacher changed every 30 minutes. They covered 50’s jive, 60’s swing, 70’s disco, 80’s anthems, Street dance, Latin, Hip-hop, Bollywood and West End Musicals to name a few. We also learnt how to do the Thriller dance.

The atmosphere was like nothing else and we kept each other going right to the end. Everyone there was inspired to do good for a great cause by participating in what was really a six hour aerobics class! I’m broken, weirdly emotional and absolutely exhausted but it was incredible.

The Alphabet Project | H is for hat

Hello everyone and welcome to letter H of the Alphabet Photography Project.

We’re popping back to the Summertime this week with a photograph of POD’s infamous hat. Bought at a Mediterranean market, its had a great innings so far. It was lost for a short time not long after this photograph was taken but thankfully found that same day. I have no idea how we’ll replace it when the time comes!

The B&W Photography Project | Week #34

Hello everyone, welcome to week #34 of the Black and White Photography Project. Thank you so much to those of you that joined in last week. I finish commuting to London mid-April so I’m looking forward to catching up with you all properly, its been so bonkers recently.

We did something last weekend we’d been meaning to do for ages – order prints! It’s such a simple thing but we just hadn’t got round to it. We bought a couple of vintage multi-frames which are perfect for black and white prints. I meant to order 20 photographs but ended up with over a hundred – surprisingly easy to do!

PODcast IMG_0130 B&W

It’s been wonderful looking back at all the photographs. I love this collection taken at National Trust owned Frensham Little Pond in Surrey last Summer. The heath is a site of special specific interest, a special protection area and a special area of conservation. It is beautiful.

What to expect at a Danceathon

Having never participated in a Danceathon before, this post should really start with a disclaimer! Re-creating a film of Pulp’s ‘Common People’ after several tequilas doesn’t count does it?

So the Team Honk Danceathon for Comic Relief takes place on Sunday 8th March at The SSE Arena, Wembley. It will involve 100 ‘Honkers’ who will dance non-stop for SIX HOURS! I’m not even sure I can dance for six minutes so please send money and tips.

Claudia Winkleman is presenting and will be joined by a host of celebs and the UK’s dance glitterati including Arlene Phillips, Adam Garcia, Kimberley Wyatt, Aljaz Skorjanec, Ian Waite and Robin Windsor to name just a few. The dance style and teacher will change every 30 minutes. They’ll cover 50’s jive, 60’s swing, 70’s disco, 80’s anthems, Street dance, Latin, Hip-hop, Bollywood and West End Musicals.

Here’s a taste of what we can expect from the Team Honk Danceathon for Comic Relief. We may not know all (any!) of the moves but a little knowledge goes along way, right?

50’s jive

So the jive is a ballroom style dance. It’s fair to assume the start point might not be the same as this one!

60’s swing

There are several styles from the swing era, the most recognisable being Lindy Hop – a mix of jazz, tap, breakaway and the Charleston. Watch out for the cartwheels!

70’s disco

Disco includes funk, soul, pop and salsa. Time to boogie baby!

80’s anthems

Brace yourselves for much jumping and heaps of shouting!

Latin

Latin dancing includes the rumba, the samba, the cha-cha-cha and the paso doble. There are no words #sendhelp

Bollywood

Bollywood dance comes from Indian folk dances, classical and disco. Performing a dance like this en masse will be epic!

The Team Honk Danceathon for Comic Relief will be incredible – if you’re not involved, get involved! Thank you very much to the wonderful folk at Betfair who are very generously supporting my cause. They’ll probably have bets on whether I can make it to the end! Please sponsor me too if you can, even a fiver can make a difference.

Thanks everyone, see you at Wembley!!!

The Alphabet Project | G is for gravity

Hello everyone and welcome to letter G of the Alphabet Photography Project.

This week is all about being airborne! POD was a climber before she could even walk, she still loves to climb, jump and dive. Even at bathtime she likes to fall backwards and let you catch her like she’s crowd surfing!

How to in #alphabetphoto

To join in with #alphabetphoto all you need to do is link up a post with a photograph that represents the letter G. It’s your call on how you interpret the theme – it might be an object, an adjective or a representation of that letter.

Your photograph can be from any time too so don’t feel you have to take a fresh one each week! You can join in every week or once in a while too, it’s entirely up to you.

Photographs from the Devil’s Punchbowl

Managed by the National Trust, Hindhead Commons and the Devil’s Punch Bowl is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You don’t have to venture far to take in the impressive views of the Punch Bowl and the stunning scenery that surrounds it. It’s an awesome place to blow away the cobwebs.

PODcast IMG_5512

We totally make the most of our National Trust membership and we’re so lucky there is so much to see not just in Surrey but in Hampshire too. POD loves being outdoors and is continually asking questions – in this instance what her shadow was on a tree!

PODcast IMG_5502

The Devil’s Punchbowl is a great place to experience nature at its very best. If you’re lucky you might even see some wild ponies. We were thrilled we got to see quite a few.

PODcast IMG_5544

There are many paths to explore either through the woods or across open heathland. We made the mistake once of ignoring the map at the Devil’s Punchbowl, in turn discovering just about every nook and cranny! If you’d like to see what we saw on our three hour adventure, you can check out the Devil’s Punchbowl and Beyond post.

PODcast IMG_5489

Today was all about having a good time, POD got to exercise her diving and jumping skills – over ditches and off tree stumps.

PODcast IMG_5619

There were also lots of muddy puddles to jump into. Or in this case, gently wade across!

PODcast IMG_5524

The highlight was POD having a huge giggling fit and her laugh is so infectious! It started after she took her hat off and refused to put it back on again!

PODcast IMG_5638

It then turned into a bit of a game which involved hat on, hat off and running off with Daddy in hot pursuit. It was a hat kind of day, despite the sunshine it was rather chilly. She did succumb in the end.

PODcast IMG_5629

The views are amazing at the Devil’s Punchbowl as is the smell of nature around you. It’s a brilliant place to restore the balance and generally makes you feel great. The coffee and cake afterwards helps too obviously!
