A glorious day at Hatchlands Park

Originally built in the 1750’s for a naval hero and his wife, Hatchlands Park has since housed wealthy families, was a finishing school and even a printing press. Now the National Trust owned mansion is a family home containing tenant Alec Cobbe’s collection of paintings and fine furniture.

Hello everyone, welcome to What’s The Story for w/c 14th September. Thank you to those of you that joined in last week.

This week’s #whatsthestory post comes from the beautiful Hatchlands Park. Owned by the National Trust, the house was built in the 1750’s for a naval hero and his wife. It has since housed wealthy families, a finishing school and a printing press. We love the parkland and ancient woodland which spans some 400 acres and open all year round.

The B&W Photography Project | Week #62

Hello everyone, welcome to week #62 of the Black and White Photography Project. Thank you so much to those of you that joined in last time.

This week I thought I’d share a few photographs from the Southampton Boat Show which kicked off on Friday. As well as seeing boats of all shapes and sizes from paddle boards to super yachts, there was also this. It’s a true, full size replica of the Cutty Sark scheduled for launch in 2019 – the 150th anniversary of the Cutty Sark.

The ‘Cutty Sark 2 Sail’ project  is an international collaboration led by and experienced tall ship builder and captain Vladimir Martus of St Petersburg. The 85m, three masted Cutty Sark 2 will be built along original lines and traditional methods, which in itself is an extraordinary challenge, with most of the project team volunteers. The estimated cost for the project is estimated at €28 million.

There will be a post about the Southampton Boat Show going up in the next couple of days. In the meantime, here’s a sneaky peek at just some of what you can expect. The photograph below was taken from the Honda Big Wheel. Not being brilliant with heights, I’m not sure what possessed me to jump aboard and I was terrified at the top but the views were incredible.

A change in routine

It’s funny how accustomed you become to a routine. Although I welcome change, I rather like the order structure brings too. POD has been at the same nursery/pre-school for over three years so we thought the transition into school with a little break in-between wouldn’t be that dissimilar. As it turns out these past weeks have turned our routine totally on its head!

The Alphabet Project is back!

Well I have to admit I’ve really missed the Alphabet Photography Project these past weeks. But it’s back in TWO WEEKS – kicking off series three on Wednesday 23rd September!

It’s really easy to join in, all you have to do is link up a post with a photograph the represents that week’s letter. It’s entirely up to you as to how you interpret the theme – whether an object, an adjective or a representation of that letter. Hints are on the Alphabet Photography Project page (just click on each letter) and there’s also a Pinterest page full of photographic inspiration.

You can also join the #alphabetphoto project on Instagram (PODcast is here). You can also share your post in the Pinterest and Facebook groups or in the Google+ community.

You can use a photograph from any time and you don’t have to join in every week if you don’t want to. The Linky will be live every Wednesday (until the following Tuesday) from 23rd September starting with letter A right through to Z.

Time to get the brain in gear for letter A!

New beginnings

POD looks so grown-up in her school uniform, almost unrecognisable. Although a week in, seeing her wearing a white polo shirt and branded cardigan catches me by surprise every day. She looks so different to the POD we’re used to who has very firm ideas about what she does and doesn’t wants to wear! Although not five until Christmas Day, she’s attended the same nursery and pre-school since 2011 so it’s hardly a surprise.

A sunny stroll in Frensham

The stunning Frensham Little Pond, and Great Pond, in Surrey were created in the 13th century, when the Plantagenet King Henry III was on the English throne. The Bishop of Winchester wanted a fish supply for when he visited Farnham Castle and ordered that ponds should be created at Frensham.

It was formed by building an ironstone wall (some of the original stonework remains) across a shallow valley and damming a stream entering the other end of the pond, which came from a spring in the grounds of Silverbeck, Churt.

With POD starting school on Tuesday, it seemed only right to share a few photographs of her. These images were taken at her grandparents in Suffolk recently where she took it upon herself to embark on a spot of Spanish dancing!
