The Alphabet Project | R is for rose

Welcome to the Alphabet Photography Project and letter R! Thank you to everyone that joined in last week.

In the absence of snow, which POD is still so desperate to see, I find myself craving colour. Perhaps it’s the prospect of spring thats’s doing it with daffodils and snowdrops already making an appearance. I love being surrounded by colour and if I had my way, we’d have wonderful blooms like this indoors all the time. I just love the contrast between the pink and the green.

Capturing the Jigantics light installations

RHS Wisley is home to the largest plant collection in the world. We’re lucky it’s just a short drive from us as we regularly head there for a wander. Whatever time of year you visit, there’s always something to see in one of the numerous gardens. From the rocks and the alpine display houses to the 420ft mixed borders and woodland garden of Battleston Hill, the team work exceptionally hard to make Wisley an inspirational place you can’t help but return to. A favourite of the Doves is the state-of-the-art glasshouse with its three climatic zones. It’s a cathedral-like structure which covers an area the equivalent to 10 tennis courts and rises to 40ft in height. We’ll be there again soon to see exotic butterflies in the jungle-like tropical zone amid tree ferns, palms, creepers and flowers.

Disney’s The Lion Guard puzzles from Ravensburger

As fans of Disney’s The Lion King, we’re looking forward to catching The Lion Guard when it’s on Disney Junior. It follows protagonist Kion, Simba and Nala’s son, as he assembles a group of animals to protect the Pride Lands – known as The Lion Guard. We’ve already familiarised ourselves with the main characters thanks to Ravensburger and their 4 in a box puzzles. Five year old POD adores the challenge jigsaws bring and has spent many months enjoying Frozen – another Disney classic from Ravensburger. You might have heard of it.

The B&W Photography Project | Week #78

Hello folks, welcome to week #78 of the Black and White Photography Project. If you’re new here, this is a really simple project to get involved with – just link up any monochrome photograph. With words or without, it’s entirely up to you. Your images don’t need to be from the past week either so you can pick and choose what you want to share. If you new to black and white photography, check out these tips which will give you a steer on what you can do. Most important is just having fun with it! Don’t forget you can also share your photograph on Instagram using #bwphotoproject – or just join in there if you prefer.

Support the Everest Challenge

When my little brother Ed (now in his thirties!) was five years old he went on a school trip to Dorset. He got the opportunity to go climbing but it terrified him so he didn’t do it. Twenty years later, he decided to give it another go and that’s when he got the climbing bug. This Sunday he’s doing something AMAZING – leading a team of climbers who will scale the height of Everest (8,848m). In a single day! With their climbing wall 12.5m high, it’s anticipated the team will have to scale it 708 times over a period of 6-9 hours to reach their goal. The Everest Challenge will be a huge test for the team in terms of their commitment, strength and endurance.

My brother Ed also has Ulcerative Colitis so you might wonder why he’s embarking on such a feat.

The Alphabet Project | Q is for quiet

Welcome to the Alphabet Photography Project and letter Q! Thank you to everyone that joined in last week.

When we visited West Wittering in Sussex last, it was 28 degrees. A stark contrast to this day when we arrived just after a torrential downpour. Aside from POD’s squeals of excitement and the sound of the waves, it was so quiet. Stretches of sand and barely a soul about. There’s something wonderful about that, we really must do it more often.

Thinking slimmer with Slimpod

When I first heard about Slimpod, I had a wonderful image of a pod (a bit like a spray tan booth) that instantly made you slim. Wouldn’t that be brilliant! Sadly the real world isn’t like that and I have to lose weight and get my fitness levels back to what they were. During pregnancy, I ate really healthily, replacing my love for wine and coffee with drank gallons of water. But a lot can happen in five years can’t it? A time short parent with a passion for good food and wine is not a brilliant combination. And the return to working from home has meant I’ve reached for the fridge a tad too frequently.

Chasing rainbows at the beach

Being adventurous folk, we love the great outdoors. Of course the winter months do require a little more effort (and clothing!) but those cobwebs don’t blow away by themselves. Last weekend the forecast was for heavy rain but we were starting to go stir crazy indoors. Added to which POD was desperate to go to the beach. She’d been asking when we’re going on holiday every day since she broke up from school! If you took away the monsoon outside, it was the next best thing. Okay maybe not.
