Earlier this year my parents took me on holiday to Greece with Mark Warner at the Levante Beach Resort on the Greek Island of Rhodes. We had a lovely time. Imagine my surprise when only 7 weeks later I was packing my Trunki ready for another trip away. This time to San Lucianu, Mark Warner’s Beach Resort on the beautiful island of Corsica.
Having experienced the excellent Mini Club childcare at Levante, I was expecting a similar level of engagement this time around. As with my previous encounter I was to be part of ‘Sharks’ with fellow travellers aged 3-5 years old.
San Lucianu’s Mini Club is on the left as you pull into the drive, just past the tennis courts. It’s a light and airy building with lots of space for us Mini Clubbers to express ourselves.
I was signed up for the morning sessions, which allowed my parents to take advantage of the tennis course. This did mean a 9am drop-off which interfered with my planned holiday lie-in, but after a stiff orange juice and a bowl of ‘crazy breakfast’ a multi cereal combo in one bowl (1 Weetabix, 1 tsp. of cornflakes, 1 tsp. of Coco-Pops) I was ready to face the day.
All my ‘teachers’ were very friendly and welcomed me back into the Mini Club sorority. There were some boys there too but we don’t mention them. During the week we did arts and crafts and read stories in between our excursions across the resort.
As I suffer with eczema the sea stings my legs when I go for a dip. However I was determined to make the most of my week away so threw myself into the windsurfing, sailing and kayaking. We also had several trips to the pool where I got to use a Konfidence jacket again, having been introduced to them at Levante.
My swimming needs work, I’m no Rebecca Adlington. However with the encouragement of my ‘teachers’ and with the knowledge I was safely buoyant in my Konfidence jacket I had a whale of a time. By the last day of my holiday I was swimming with just my armbands!
Every day at 12.30 my parents arrived to pick me up. They’re obviously quite keen on tennis as they were always red faced and sweaty but still insisted on a kiss and a cuddle.
Having enjoyed a delicious lunch I then had the rest of the day to myself and spent the majority of my time splashing around in the pool. We did take a trip to the nearby and rather magnificent Cervione one afternoon, it had a playground and cafes that sell ice cream and apple juice.
At Levante in May my parents assumed I’d rather spend time eating with them than watch a DVD showing at Mini Club every evening before realising their mistake. Having established this was my preferred route I was able to enjoy a number of classics at San Lucianu including two of my all time favourites – The Croods and Beauty and the Beast.
I took advantage of the early ‘Kids tea’ so was in my pyjamas and ready to slip into cinema mode by 7pm with a pick up booked for 11pm. Some evenings my eczema decided to play up but my ‘teachers’ were on hand to apply my Sudocrem to help ease the itch and I was quickly back to the night’s film. My memory of being picked up is a little hazy. I usually ended up snuggling down into the camp beds available to rest my eyes for a few minutes only to awake the following morning back in our room.
Would I recommend Mark Warner childcare? I would indeed with a resounding yes. I’m off to Big School in September and I’m hoping to squeeze in a hat trick of visits over October’s half term. I imagine I’ll need some serious R&R by then!
