Discovering the Red Hot Poker stems and seed pods covered in snails with stripey shells was an incredible sight the other day. They were everywhere! One had a brown shell so shiny it almost looked like a conker! It was pouring with rain but a great opportunity to test out the macro.
The Sunflowers in the garden are looking rather lovely this week. I hope they flower soon, it will be great to see them bloom given POD planted the seeds.Β The bed they’re in is now desperate for a weed but we haven’t quite found the energy yet. Grasshoppers adore it and I even spotted a ladybird in the shade whilst trying to photograph one of our jumping friends.
The Fuchsia is continuing to do well although many other flowers are dying off now. If you look around you can definitely see the change in the garden.
I can’t wait to kick the autumn leaves in the nearby forest though. POD fell over in the leaves for the first time last year and bounced. Then giggled. It was a superb moment.
The empty bed adjacent to the new patio has been filled with blue and pink Hydrangea, a Hosta and some little red, white and pink Cyclamen.
I fell in love with the beautiful yellow Canna when I saw it. I don’t know how long it will look like this for but it’s a great sight at the moment.
It’s wonderful to see the area that was previous decked look so welcoming.

I am starting to imagine you as a bit of a David Attenborough always crouching amongst all your plants and spying on all the insect population π it sounds like your garden is growing beautifully!
Ha ha I have a new macro lens so I’m practicing on insects. Probably not ideal given they move LOL! The garden is doing much better thank you, does need some serious weeding in parts though π
That is a wonderful shot of the snail. You photos really make me want to invest in a macro lens once I get my camera back from the shop.
Thank you Kathleen, that’s so kind of you. I’ve not mastered the macro in the sunshine, faired better in the rain! It’s definitely worth having a tinker when you get your camera back π
Beautiful flowers
Thank you Claire π
so beautiful
Thanks Anna π
Gorgeous pictures – what a lovely bright garden
Thank you very much. The garden is looking bright in a couple of places at least!
Your macro photos are great, especially the one of the snail! When I see photos like this, it feels like there is a secret world underneath us, but we just don’t see it until we stop and take a really good look π
Thank you Gemma, I was so proud of the last snail especially. I’m fascinated by getting the detail! The macro is so different to my other lenses, it’s going to take a while to get used to it I think π
The Canna is stunning isn’t it? Your pictures are so lovely Charly – loving the Macro! It’s so lovely for the kids to see the whole journey of the flowers from seed to petals – and sunflowers are so very very rewarding. I hope POD is proud of herself x
You’re so kind thank you. I love the Canna. It’s in a pot now. Didn’t look right for it to share a bed. Here’s to the Sunflower flowering before it gets too tall!
Your macro skillz are smashing missus! Love the little snails – looking ta these shots makes me feel like I’ve been shrunk and am actually in the grass looking around – awesome!
So regretting not planting sunflowers now x
Thanks lovely, you’re too kind! I’ve got a lot to learn with the macro lens, not doing so well when it’s really sunny. Should probably read the book! The snail photos are great though, it’s a weird sensation being so close-up π
