POD is a huge fan of the animated series PJ Masks which is on the Disney Junior channel. These wonderful superheroes have now been brought to life as part of an exciting range of toys. If you’re not familiar with the characters, there are three friends (Connor, Amaya and Greg) who turn into the Catboy, Owlette and Gekko superheroes when they put their pyjamas on. Each has superpowers. Catboy for example has Super Cat Speed, Cat Ears (for super hearing) and a Super Cat Leap. Owlette has Super Owl Wings, Owl Eyes and Owl Wing Wind while Gekko has a Super Lizard Grip, Super Gekko Camouflage and Super Gekko Muscles.
According to a new study published by Netflix today, nearly half of streaming couples around the world have “cheated” on their significant other. By that I mean watching a TV show on Netflix ahead of your partner. This new research shows there’s been a huge increase over the past four years with cheating becoming common behaviour. The UK is a nation of serial cheaters with 81% doing it multiple times. A third of those have done it more than four times too. Although if you’re going to cheat, you’re going to cheat right?
We’ve reviewed the Horse Club Riding Centre and the Giant Volcano with T-Rex from Schleich in the past. The quality and attention to detail of both sets is absolutely superb and we’ve come to expect this from Schleich. We were excited to see what their Wild Life collectables would be like. POD is fascinated by nature and she’s currently reading about the animal kingdom in her encyclopedia.
The My Fairy Garden range from Interplay offers children the opportunity to experience unlimited imaginative play and learn how to grow real plants. From creating a living fairy garden to planting magic beans in a pot or uncovering the secrets of nature through a secret fairy door.
Fairies have arrived in the Dove household in the form of Glimmies. Sent from the moon to protect the “Glimmieswood” forest animals, Glimmies are 23 little star fairies who love to have adventures. They have a charming resemblance to forest animals and always respect nature. Created by Flair, Glimmies magically shine when darkness falls bringing with them a whole new level of imaginative play.
You may remember I attended a macro photography workshop a couple of years ago. I distinctly remember the room gasp when I announced I didn’t actually have a tripod. Someone asked what I used for macro and my response was “my thighs”. That was followed was a general feeling of disbelief. I’m sure they thought I was joking. Truth be told, I do whatever it takes to get the shot whether it be kneeling, lying or standing in the rain. Perhaps that’s just me.
Much as we live in a technology-driven world, it can never replace the joy of reading books. Books were a huge part of my childhood with favoured authors including from Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton and E Nesbit to Alf Proyson, CS Lewis and Mary Norton. Some of my most memorable books were published before I was even born. Classics like The Secret Garden (Frances Hodgson Burnett), The Great Gatsby (F. Scott Fitzgerald) and Little Women (Louisa May Alcott) among them. I started reading to POD every night when she was just a few months old. I didn’t get much back in the very early days but making storytelling part of her bedtime routine has certainly paid off.
The festive period is always a bit special in the Dove household as POD’s birthday is on Christmas Day. With her sixth birthday fast approaching, it’s more important than ever to keep the Father Christmas magic alive. She’s still very much a believer and the Portable North Pole is a superb way to ensure that remains the case. What could be better than a message from the big man himself?
If you’ve visited our travel blog recently, you may have read about the Kakslauttanen resort in Finland. Their Christmas offering provides children with the opportunity to visit Santa’s home and the impressive Celebration House – said to be the largest log building in the country. The resort looks spectacular, I imagine myself there on a regular basis and five year old POD would undoubtedly be off the scale with excitement. But a weekend in a Kela-glass igloo would set us back around £1,000 and that’s without flights. Nearby Lapland could be a more cost effective alternative but not by much. While Finland remains firmly on the bucket list, POD is growing up way to fast. Don’t get me wrong she’s a huge believer and embraces all things magical but she turns six on Christmas Day. Yes I know we’re not sure how that happened either!
Sitting at the cinema a while back we saw a trailer for the DreamWorks animation the Trolls. What made it particularly poignant were the words “right outside my door lurks a nightmare. Named Poppy”. It made us all fall about laughing to discover POD shared her name with the leader of the trolls. We’ve watched the Trolls trailer many times since and we’re always singing the “Can’t stop the feeling” title track.
