Back to school essentials

The summer holidays seem to have flown by this year. The combination of our kitchen renovation (we re-located our kitchen to our dining space) and a holiday in Asturias has certainly helped with that. Either way we’re fast approaching September and the start of a new term. Hard to believe POD will be in Year 2, it really doesn’t seem five minutes since she began reception.

Being away the last couple of weeks of August meant we got ourselves organised this year. POD’s branded cardigans and PE t-shirts arrived at the start of the month. For the third year running, she has a new school uniform and shoes from Marks and Spencer which always wear well.

Six year old POD is a huge Smiggle fan, her current favourites include a Smiggle Back to School Essentials Backpack (RRP £30) which would have to be accessorised with the Owl alphabet key ring (£5) and Fluffy Missy Keyring (£7). Is it just us to do all kids want key rings attached to their backpacks? Being a creative type, POD also has to have a suitable collection of pens and notebooks. She has a locked notebook from Smiggle which she loves and the All Your Faves Pack (£15) is a great option for the start of a new term.

Other essentials include the Dreamworks The Trolls aluminium water bottle (£5.72), The Trolls umbrella (£5.90) and the Banana Fruit Jacket (£7.99) which are all from Amazon. Although POD has school dinners, the latter is a great way to keep bananas fresh when her classes kick off again. She has swimming one day after school with gymnastics and Stagecoach at the weekend – bananas are a great way to keep her energy levels up.

With it due to get colder (we’re SO excited for those autumnal hues), her Berghaus 3-in-1 jacket from Blacks and Joules Printed Wellies (£24.95) are essential items. Not just for the route to and from school but to keep warm while she’s doing forest schools and when we’re out and about. Even when it gets cooler, we’re an outdoorsy kind of family, relishing that fresh country air all year round. So we’re almost there I think, just the labelling to do now. We love Stamptastic for much of that although we need to order some name stickers too. Enjoy the remaining days of the summer holiday and best of luck with the start of a new school year.
