Are we ready for POD to start school?

Next Tuesday we find out where POD is on the waiting list for the local school. She was in the top ten six weeks ago so we can only presume she’ll be near the top then. We were really disappointed when she didn’t get offered a place with her chums but we’ve moved on since then. These past weeks have seen us firmly focused on getting POD organised for her new school as well as working out how to get there!

It’s been a strange adjustment but we’ve had a home visit now and POD has visited the school twice. She had a whale of a time and we’re confident she’ll settle in once she starts in a week or so. She has one of the required branded cardigans with more on order. She has a uniform she looks amazing in (albeit startlingly older than her four years) and a PE kit. She even has a new Peppa Pig water bottle for the journey to and from school.

POD is very excited about starting and she’s more than ready. Literally – she’s already packed three bags! Thankfully we’ve found the one that contained two packets of raisins and an apple. All in all I think we’re pretty prepared now – aside from the labelling which is still on the to do list.

I’m not sure I’m ready for POD to start school and I have to admit I feel a little bit sick when I think about it. But I know she’ll do well and she will love it. I’m not sure what we’ll do if she’s offered a place at the local school but we’ll cross that bridge when the time comes. For now it’s all about being prepared and getting settled.

POD recently finished at the nursery and pre-school she’s attended since she was a year old. I was dreading saying goodbye to everyone but POD made it easier by running round like a headless chicken and failing to get upset herself. There is no photography allowed in the building so these images were taken on her last day but in the car park where POD had an impromptu sing song. As you do. She’s a huge character and I know the staff will all miss her. I’m not sure the school know what they’re letting themselves in for!

That is great she is feeling good about starting school. I hope you get your chosen school. It’s so up in the air. It’s hard for us mums but they do love it x

I’m sure it’ll all fall into place. The getting N there was my worry because I needed to either get him a lift with someone, get the OH to do it on 3 days (never going to happen) or request to change my hours. Luckily they’re trialling breakfast club although now I’m just praying the trial continues otherwise I’ll still be changing my hours.

Must be weird potentially being between schools. A work colleague moved to the area in July and had to put in a late school application. As of Friday they still hadn’t heard if and where her son would be going. Scarily last minute to get uniform and sort out logistics.

Good luck for the star day

Oh Charly, hope the day goes well for all of you – it’s such an emotional time for mums isn’t it? She’s already looking so grown up in these photos so I can imagine adding a uniform only exacerbates that, and glad you found the bag with the food! Ha ha, sending love and don’t forget to pack a tissue for you x

Lots of prompt posts on a similar theme this week. Have to say POD looks way less worried about the next transition than you sound! All the uniform shenanigans sound a pain, bet my mum’s pleased we didn’t have uniform till big school! You’ll be fine 🙂 x

Such a milestone in any parents life! I think we find it harder than our kids to be honest. I am sure pod will be amazing and settle in really well. I have to label the uniform too!

I’m not ready I’m not ready, for any of our little ones to start. Pod sounds just like Z, excited to be going on their next adventure. I think I need to just woman up and put all his labels on now.

Gosh, not knowing where you are on the waiting list and possibly having to swap schools at the last minute must make it more difficult to prepare, but it sounds like you’ve done a great job. POD looks so happy and confident, I’m sure she’ll be bouncing in to school, whichever school you choose.
Best of luck for next week

I know we both say this all the time, but POD and the wee girl are so alike! I’m absolutely sure she will be fine in either school, but still having that uncertainty hanging over you must be so difficult. Thinking of you xx Thanks so much for sharing with #ThePrompt x

Gorgeous photographs as always Charly. Gosh what a pain not knowing yet? But it sounds like you’re doing all the right things – throwing yourselves into the new school and getting prepared. I’m sure wherever she goes, she will thrive 🙂
