POD seems to have grown up so much over the summer holidays and not just in height. In just a few days time, she starts Junior School which I still haven’t got my head around. That said, it’s looking to be a fairly smooth transition as she’ll be joining many of her friends there. The Junior School feeds in from the primary she was at so it was a relief when she secured a place. I suspect we would have had to move house otherwise.
Having not been offered a place at the local school when she was four, we know not to take anything for granted when it comes to education. If you’re a regular here, you’ll remember she started reception at another school we had to drive to rather than walk. Some days school drop off and pick up would take up to an hour and a half a day what with rush hour traffic. We were lucky I was self-employed at the time.
POD was near the top of the waiting list for the local school from September 2015 until January 2017. You can imagine the delight when we received an offer letter. We met the head on a Thursday afternoon, POD left the school she was at the following day and joined the local primary from the Monday. POD knew several children there so she settled in quickly. She’s loved her 18 months there and has some wonderful memories. It’s an excellent school.
POD had a few visits to the Junior school before the end of the summer term. We’ve since been over for a presentation to find out how the school operates, what the kids will be focusing on and meet the teaching staff. We’re hoping to attend afternoon coffee the day before POD starts so she can meet her teacher again and familiarise herself with her classroom. Likely we’ll then be back home to embark on the school uniform labelling which I’ve not had time to do. Hopefully, it’s not just me that leaves this job to the last minute? So here’s to a new era and an exciting chapter for this one. Let’s hope she has the best possible start.
The years fly by don’t they! I found your blog via the #bibs shortlist – good luck!
