A BIG thank you #MADBlogAwards

It’s raining and I’m finding it increasingly distracting. It’s not particularly noisy but something has caught my eye outside and I can’t help but look. What I’m excited about is a bush. A bush outside the patio window adorned with purple berries. Like glistening jewels, each berry is momentarily encased by a raindrop before it falls to the ground. What I see however is one berry and a raindrop on the cusp of being separated. That’s what I want to capture, the very thought giving me butterflies and sending me outside.

The passion I have for photography runs deep. Weird as it sounds I never stop seeing and I never stop framing, I can’t help it. It’s what makes me head out in the wet to capture a raindrop before it falls from a berry. It’s what makes me wait for a strawberry to stop spinning in a bowl so I can get that row of bubbles. It’s what makes me sit in a flower bed hoping a bumble bee will stop to collect its nectar. It’s what makes me risk having seaweed thrown at my camera because I have to get the joy in POD’s face. From crouching on wet beaches to kneeling in stones and using my thighs as a tripod, I’ll do whatever it takes to get the image I’ve already seen before pressing the shutter.

The fire in my belly isn’t just reserved for POD and making the big small through macro techniques either. Capturing animals close-up is as fascinating – especially the larger ones. I want to see the look in their eyes and their expression. If it means taking a photograph through two sets of bars at the zoo, that’s what I’ll do. I want to create emotion with these photographs and I want everyone to feel that they were there too. I adore that about photography, the storytelling and the freeze framing of moments gone by.

What I adore about blogging is the community spirit, it’s the reason this blog was launched in the first place. Initially a place to share our favourite moments as a family of three, it’s become a vehicle for creativity along the way. I was a Finalist in the photography category of the MAD Blog Awards in 2014. I had the best night being surrounded by a group of pretty awesome and inspiring people. I never in a million years thought I’d be a Finalist this year, I only checked the site to see if my faves had made it. To be honest I’m still quite taken aback although totally over the moon at the same time. This is quite possibly the most embarrassing post ever but I wanted to say a BIG thank you. Thank you if you nominated, or you’re planning on voting, I cannot tell you how grateful I am. It’s a really tough category but I’m proud to be among such a superb group of bloggers.
