We’re truly spoiled with things to do with the kids in Surrey. Just recently we highlighted some of our favourite National Trust sites to visit and we’re in the process of finding suitable places where young children can go cycling too. Now the Easter holidays are upon us, here are just some of the brilliant things you can occupy the kids with over the next couple of weeks.
Visit Bocketts Farm for an Easter Extravaganza
It’s an ideal time to visit Bocketts Farm as they have over 300 lambs due and there are meet the shepherd sessions. Easter activities include a Hop To It Easter stamp trail, Easter Craft Corner and Disco Den plus Snuffles and Tiggles will be in the Easter Garden for fun live shows throughout the day! In addition, there are baby chicks and ducklings, animal handling, goat milking, pony rides and the infamous pig race! Find out more here.
Hop along with the Rhyming Rabbit at RHS Wisley
RHS Wisley has Easter activities running up to the 22nd of April. All week you can follow the Rhyming Rabbit trail around the garden, add your own rhyme to a giant poetry wall and enter an illustration competition. Other activities such as sow and grow, plant explorers walk, meet the animals (from Millers Ark Farm) and crafts are also on offer. Find out more here.
Join Groundwork South at Alice Holt
We know Alice Holt, managed by the Forestry Commission, well and visit regularly but this is a new one on us. Alice Holt Forest runs a holiday crafts club which provides children with the opportunity for guided outdoor exploration and games around the forest, as well as seasonal indoor crafts sessions using gathered natural materials. Find out more here.
Become a Nature Detective on the Windsor Great Park Wildlife Trail
Windsor Great Park has teamed up with the Wildlife Trust so children of all ages can learn about the plants, birds and animals in the park. A great way to put those Nature Detective skills to good use! Once back the detectives can rest and enjoy a bite to eat. Find out more here.
Follow the Cadbury Easter Trail with the National Trust
The Easter Egg Hunt trails that run over the Easter school holidays are always great fun and take place at several National Trust properties. Hatchlands Park (East Clandon) runs an Easter trail through its parkland – solve clues to win an Easter egg. Pony rides and archery are also available on set dates too. Embark on a daring adventure at Winkworth Arboretum (Godalming) and follow the clues to discover the dragon’s nest that
hides among the trees!
You can buzz about Claremont Landscape Garden (Esher) finding clues about their buzzy bees and their favourite flowers. At Polesden Lacey (Dorking) the animals are spring cleaning and one creature’s trash is another one’s treasure! At Dapdune Wharf (Guildford), there’s a day of family fun with sports day races and craft activities on Good Friday along with an Easter egg hunt. Saturday to Monday the egg hunt is on along with Wind in the Willows-themed trail and activities. At Hindhead Commons and the Devil’s Punchbowl (Hindhead), you can unleash your inner explorer to find clues and win a chocolatey treat.
Other egg-citing (see what we did there?) things to do include taking to the skies in a Go Ape Treetop Adventure, a family Easter Egg Hunt, puppet show, games, activities and animal feeding at Hobbledown and solving riddles at Painshill Park to reveal where the Easter bunny has hidden all the chocolate! What about heading to Brooklands Museum for some Easter fun or seeing the finest collection of native wildlife in Britain at the British Wildlife Centre.
These are just some of the things you can be doing with the kids this Easter holiday in Surrey. If we’ve missed anything that really is a must-see, do leave us a note in the comments below. Make sure you tag all your UK outdoor adventures with #UKExplore on Instagram too – it’s a community I co-host with Mini Travellers and we’ve just hit 40k. Each month we pick our best photos and give away a National Trust gift pass to our favourite. Check out this post for more information. Have a wonderful Easter everyone!
