We’ve always encouraged POD to explore her creativity and the three years she had at nursery certainly helped fuel that. She adopts the same level of enthusiasm for painting and colouring as she does crafts with her newly discovered written skills adding depth to the creations that adorn her bedroom walls. Being an independent little thinker with a fantastic imagination, we were keen to see how she got on with a Shaker Maker.
Our Cool Create Shaker Maker from Flair is Disney themed which is ideal for POD who continues to relish in all things Frozen. Suitable for children aged 5-8, Shaker Maker is an easy to use sculpture kit which enables you to make and paint statuettes like Elsa and Anna or Shopkins favourites L’Dish Donot and Strawberry Kiss. Our Frozen Shaker Maker pack consisted of a blue Shaker Maker base, two moulds, a clear cup with a rubber seal, two sachets containing Plaster of Paris moulding powder, two display stands, paints and a paintbrush.
The Shaker Maker is ridiculously easy to use, surprisingly so in fact. We first secured one of our moulds in the Shaker Maker base with warm water and one sachet of moulding powder placed in the clear cup. We then screwed the two together, ensuring they were firmly attached, before shaking the unit for around 30 seconds. We carefully removed the clear cup at that point, giving the Shaker Maker base a light bang to remove any air bubbles, and left the Plaster of Paris to set. The finished mould came out with little encouragement 90 minutes later. We made our second mould straightaway so we could decorate the Elsa and Anna statuettes together. POD decided she wanted to focus on decorating Anna while I made a start on Elsa.
There is a set of six paints and a paintbrush with the Shaker Maker set. We opted to use more paintbrushes so we could chop and change the colours we were using. You can easily wash paint off a brush and remove any moisture with a tea towel if you want to use the one brush. Five year old POD did a superb job of painting carefully and not overloading her brush. She was really pleased with the ‘masked Anna’ she created. Both statuettes are now standing proudly in their display stands on the fireplace.
