Capturing morning at Newlands Corner

Having enjoyed the wonderfully serene Frensham Little Pond last month, the mist surrounding Newlands Corner offered much of the same. A well-known beauty spot, near where it’s thought Agatha Christie ‘disappeared’, Newlands Corner is part of the North Downs and boasts some of the best views of the Surrey Hills. Even with the morning mist lifting you could still see for miles. While I look back at our years in London with great fondness, there’s something to be said about breathing in fresh country air. Newlands Corner is the ideal spot to blow away a few cobwebs or pretend to be Tinkerbell (as POD did recently) and it’s popular with dog walkers too.

On this particular occasion it was just me and my camera capturing Surrey waking up. There was a distinct chill in the air but with it came those fabulous smells you associate with frosty mornings. It was crunchy underfoot in places with the majority of the paths I took well-worn and easy to walk along. There’s something special about being surrounded by so much green space at the same time as many are preparing for the working day.

It was nice to see the sun make its way upward bringing with it a welcome tinge of blue in the sky. I love being outdoors capturing my surroundings, it never fails to raise a smile even if the climate isn’t quite what we want it to be sometimes. Five year old POD is growing up with the beautiful Surrey landscape as an extension of the garden. I do hope one day she realises how lucky she is. You can never take where you live for granted although many of us do.

The simple things in life are quite often the best and a short walk before cracking on with the day is certainly a treat. Having headed downward when I arrived, the best thing about this fleeting visit was turning back on myself to return to the car only to be greeted with the brightest blue sky. Today was going to be a good day.
