It’s funny how accustomed you become to a routine. Although I welcome change, I rather like the order structure brings too. POD has been at the same nursery/pre-school for over three years so we thought the transition into school with a little break in-between wouldn’t be that dissimilar. As it turns out these past weeks have turned our routine totally on its head!
Firstly taking POD out of pre-school before the reception term started resulted in POD not sleeping until way after her bedtime. She was up and down the stairs like a yoyo and although that has stopped, she’s still playing until around 10pm! We’ve tried everything to get her to sleep earlier and even being out all day doesn’t seem make a difference. The only exception was when the POD Father took her to soft play for a few hours but that’s not something you want to repeat on a regular basis is it?!
POD is also waking up in the early hours and spending the rest of the night in our bed. Like all four year olds, she wriggles around and takes up far more of the bed than she should be. If my head isn’t lolling towards the floor or resting on the bedside cabinet, POD will have her head on top of mine. Strangely she can sleep like that.
We’ve come to the conclusion that being in school full-time and after school club is the only way we’ll get our routine back. And with any luck an uninterrupted night’s sleep!
Linking up with Mum Turned Mom for #ThePrompt where this week the prompt is change.
Good luck!
My daughter didn’t sleep through teh night until she went to school, even though she went to nursery 8-6 3 days a week. But school finally did it!
Oh, I hope that works for you! Broken sleep is a killer. I remember when the 6yo started full time school, he was exhausted. It really does take it out of them. Good luck 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing with #ThePrompt x
Our routine went out the window over the summer and I was dreading school starting and brand new routines. Thankfully we’re back into one now. We need to keep it up now. You label socks??? 🙂
