Win a Salcura winter skin therapy pack

Having always had sensitive skin, I’ve learnt the key to keeping flare ups at bay is to moisturise as it’s the dryness that causes the itch. I suffered with awful eczema as a child but thankfully the days of coal tar baths, emollient and steroid cream are a distant memory.

Much has changed since then too and while POD is prone to eczema, for the most part we’re able to manage it. Summer is the worst time for her with sun creams, chlorine and sweat adding to the irritation. With thinning of the skin and tissue a side effect of long term steroid use, we try to avoid topical corticosteroid creams although that’s not always possible.

When POD is eczema free, her skin is wonderfully soft (probably due to all the creaming!). She had a little flare up recently but only in the creases of her arms and legs. Luckily for us our Salcura winter skin therapy pack arrived shortly afterwards. I was quite excited about this as it was as much for POD as it was for me. My eczema is long gone but there’s always a need for a bit of nourishment at this time of year don’t you think?

Salcura collageThe Bioskin range from Salcura is dermatologically tested and suitable for anyone, especially those with sensitive or problem skin. The products are free from the likes of artificial fragrances, paraffin and steroids too. We received the Salcura Bioskin DermaSpray which can be used regularly as a source of moisture and vital nutrients. The active ingredient is Sea Buckthorn which is rich in nourishing omegas.

This was a huge change for POD as she’s used to a daily emollient. After commenting it sprayed like suncream, she quickly wanted to have a go herself. It didn’t take long for her to get used to it and we’ve used it regularly to moisturise her dry patches. The texture is not dissimilar to water so it’s very light but it’s keeping her skin nourished.

The Salcura Bioskin Zeoderm cream offers additional intensive hydration and nourishment, rescuing skin from severe dryness. The active ingredient is natural Volcanic Zeolite which is rich is rejuvenating minerals. As the creases of POD’s legs and arms had worsened recently, we used this in those problem areas. It’s recommended as a steroid free alternative to the more conventional creams and in conjunction with the Bioskin DermaSpray (or DermaSerum). Having suffered the consequences of long term steroid cream use myself, anything that makes POD comfortable and protects her skin is a winning combination in my book.

What’s great about this cream is that you can use it on your body and on your face (steroid creams are usually for the body only) as little or as often as you like. The texture is silky soft and it smells lovely too which always makes a difference. Although the big test will be in the summer when POD’s eczema worsens, we’ve certainly enjoyed reaping the benefits of the Bioskin products over the past couple of weeks. They are suitable for anyone looking to moisturise, hydrate and reduce skin redness, particularly if you have sensitive skin.
