The ChillFactor Ice Cream Magic Tray

Now the summer is here, it’s all about keeping cool and wherever possible making ice-cream! The Character ChillFactor range has taken this one step further with their Ice Cream Magic Tray which makes delicious ice-cream in minutes!

The ChillFactor Ice Cream Magic Tray comes with a metallic tray, the base for your ice-cream creations, a knife, a spatula, a spoon, a masher and a jug. The set also has an area for chopping and storing toppings too so you can have everything you need all in one place. There’s a little preparation required but in essence you just freeze, pour and scrape!

Freeze the metallic tray. First up, you need to fill the metallic tray with a solution consisting of 270ml warm water and 30g (2 tbsp) of cooking salt. Once dissolved and stirred thoroughly, just unscrew the plug of the tray and pour in the solution until it overflows. You then just pop it in the freezer, metallic tray upwards, at a temperature of -10°F to -14°F. We left ours overnight but if you don’t fancy that, you should allow 4-6 hours to ensure the solution is fully frozen.

Decide on your topping. It’s entirely up to you what you’d like as your ice-cream topping. POD chose sliced strawberries and crushed Rich Tea biscuits although hundreds and thousands, chocolate or nuts would have worked just as well.

You then pour the mixture into the green jug to the level line (75ml), pouring half of it in a zig zag on the metallic tray. The lines should be about an inch thick and you can use the spatula to spread the mixture so it’s even. The longer you leave the ice-cream mixture without scraping it with the spatula, the thicker it becomes. It literally does take minutes. What we really enjoyed about the ChillFactor Ice Cream Magic Tray is that it was easy for POD to use herself although she did keep helping herself! That’s part of the fun though isn’t it.

Having made ice-cream mixture using just cream and syrup, we also experimented by adding fruit. Raspberries and banana were the preferred option and we mashed the mixture as much as we could. It wasn’t perfect and took a little longer to freeze as it wasn’t smooth but oh my word, it was absolutely delicious! The ChillFactor Ice Cream Magic Tray is suitable for children aged 3+ and available from Character priced £19.99.

It’s looks like POD had lots of fun! We bought one of these for my little man but even after 6 hours we found the cream wasn’t freezing. Can you tell me, did you use single or double cream? I used double and i think it was too thick. I’m going to try again tomorrow with single…and maybe some yoghurt.

Oh no Anne! We used single cream although I’d be tempted with double too! We made our own mixture too using cream and chilled fruit – was delicious!
