Nestled in woodland in Churt, near Farnham is The Sculpture Park. It’s the world’s largest sculpture exhibition which showcases 650 sculptures by 300 sculptors. The exhibits are continually changing so there is always something new to discover with almost all sculptures for sale. It really is one of Surrey’s hidden gems as POD and I discovered when we visited.
Remarkably, this eclectic Sculpture Park has been in existence for over 15 years, situated within a ten-acre arboretum and wildlife inhabited water garden. Most of the sculptures are outdoors along a trail which meanders through heathland and woodland in a natural valley, further enhanced by three lakes, fed by two natural springs. It has the finest and most extensive collection of 20th century, modern and contemporary sculptures for sale.
As such, it’s not necessarily somewhere you’d think to take the kids but POD was mesmerised by the sculptures. The Sculpture Park has created something truly special with the natural environment making an ideal backdrop for the incredible and hugely varied sculptures on offer. It’s a family-run business which provides a unique opportunity for artists and attracts around 30,000 visitors each year.
It’s a wonderful place to lose yourself for a couple of hours, admiring the sculptures and taking in the beautiful surroundings. There are lush gardens and winding paths so you never know what to expect around the next corner. Please visit The Sculpture Park website to see what sculptures are currently for sale.
