With a large proportion of family members already golfers, it stands to reason I’d have taken up the sport years ago. But for whatever reason it hasn’t happened. Instead I’ve cheerfully pursued ball sports I’m already familiar with, such as tennis. When Monarch asked if I’d like to participate in a golfing experience at N1 Golf in London, I was a little apprehensive. There was tapas and wine tasting on offer so I agreed on the basis a couple of drinks would certainly improve my game. Its worked when I’ve played pool in the past.
The N1 Greenwich Peninsula golf range is the largest golf academy in Europe comprising of a 60 bay driving range on two tiers. Located next to the O2 (where One Direction were playing), we were treated to wonderful views of the city and prosecco on arrival. Having had a nose around the Vinothec Compass restaurant and the wines on offer, we headed up to a top tier bay to learn how to play golf (hit the ball).
Mark Gorman, one of the golf pros at N1 Golf, taught us what we were supposed to do before leaving us to hone our skills. Thankfully I had five great people to practice with – Kate from Wit Wit Woo, Alice from Project: Wunderlust, Stephanie from Life at 139a and Kip from Kip Hakes. As you can imagine much hilarity ensued as we attempted to master the perfect shot. And just hit the ball in the right direction!
A few snacks came our way before the main golfing event, a competition to see who could hit a ball the furthest. Using a clever 3D golf tracking gadget called Flight Scope, the team were able to track each individual ball hit. The POD Father tells me a decent drive is around 200 yards, I have a way to go before I achieve that kind of distance! Alice from Project: Wunderlust on the other hand collected second prize after hitting a very impressive 140 yards!
Our golfing exploits were rewarded with tapas in the wonderful Vinothec Compass restaurant with beer and wine tasting led by the hugely knowledgeable Keith Lyon. What a perfect end to a brilliant evening. A huge thank you to Monarch Airlines, whose European golf holidays we’re already having at nose at, N1 Golf and Vinothec Compass. Let’s do it again soon shall we?
It looks like lot’s of fun, and that food. WOW!
I did briefly have some golf lessons at university and I’d have liked to pursue it, but other things got in the way. Looks like fun.
Oh wow it sounds like you had a lovely time, I have to admit I have no idea how to play golf! x
Golf has never appealed to me but this looks like so much fun. I’m sure a few drinks would help me to play like a professional 😉
Well done on going out of your comfort zone to play golf! Several years ago I wondered what the fuss was about (my husband plays) so I went on a day like yours. I soon discovered I’m not a golfer and didn’t really enjoy it but I’m glad I tried! Your day looks more of a success!
I bet that one was one hilarious night!
I don’t think I’ve stopped laughing yet – fab night and lovely to see you x
I really don’t get golf! I worked with far to many men who used to pootle of for a round and leave me in the office!
That looks like such a fun event 🙂

I am hopeless at golf but looks like you all had an amazing time – the food and drink looks lovely
I have only ever played golf of the crazy variety – but looks like you had great fun!
Looks very fancy, the closest I have been to playing is pitch and putt at a local park 🙂
I had no idea that there was a golf range there! We’re surrounded by golf courses where I live in rural Surrey, but I’ve never tried it. It looks like you all had a fun evening.
I’ve never played golf (unless you count crazy golf ;)) but this looks like a lot of fun x
It looks amazing but not something I would do. I’ve never been able to get my head around golf. My OH on the other hand would love it.
What an amazing view to play golf to!
This looks like such a fun day out – I’d quite like to have a go at golf!!
Golf is something I would love to take up, as it involves a lot of time in the fresh air and nothing too physically demanding otherwise, lol! Sounds like you had an amazing evening out!xx
