Glamping at Crealy Meadows, Devon

We couldn’t help but smile as we approached Crealy Meadows. The rain we’d experienced much of the journey there just vanished to reveal bright skies. We’d checked in around 7pm on the Friday, greeted by cheery staff who instantly made us feel at home. Less than ten minutes later we were parked up and exploring our luxury safari cabin.

There are a range of accommodation options at Crealy Meadows which is part of Crealy Adventure Park in Devon. From standard and super sized pitches for tents to brightly coloured medieval pavilions and luxury safari cabins with either a wood burning stove or a halogen hob/combi oven. We had the latter which was fully insulated with solid walls, windows and a lockable front door. With the exception of the kitchen, it was carpeted throughout. The decked veranda out front had a table and four chairs with a path leading to our parking space. With it being so close, it was easy to unload the car and took no time at all. Such a relief given it was just the two of us on this trip.

The Crealy safari cabins are huge and can accommodate up to eight people. There are two bedrooms at the back of the cabin, one with a double bed and the other bunk beds. Each has a chest of drawers. Opposite the kitchen is an enclosed double which has double doors either side of it and a heaps of storage underneath. Six year old POD loved this and it became a den almost immediately. The living space included a table and six chairs with two taller chairs at the breakfast bar. There was also a pull-out sofa bed. The kitchen was really well equipped. As well as the halogen hob/combi oven, there was a microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster and sink plus pots, pans, crockery and utensils.

The washing facilities were just a couple of minutes walk away. Great quality, clean and nice to be in which we all know isn’t always the case. I was particularly impressed with the shower cubicles as they were spacious with a bench and two shelves for clothes. Although we didn’t need them, the facilities block also had washing up stations and a laundry room. There’s also a play area outside.

Tickets to Crealy Adventure Park, which has 60 rides and attractions, are currently included when you stay at Crealy Meadows. The entrance is literally a couple of minutes walk away and the wrist band you wear for the duration of your stay makes it easy to get in and out. We headed there to check out the evening entertainment on the evening we arrived and were thrilled to discover we could have a nose around the park even though it was closed. We were pretty much the only people around too so we got to check out the rides and be a bit silly before saying hello to the animals. Animal Land is great and POD got to chat to goats, donkeys, ponies, emus and wallabies before the sun began to set behind the trees.

Crealy Adventure Park had both indoor and outdoor attractions so it’s easy to dodge the showers. We’ll be sharing more about the rides, attractions and live shows in separate post. In the meantime, here’s a sneaky peek showing just a little of what we got up to. Our favourite rides were the Jolly Roger, which is a new rocking and swinging pirate ship, the Victorian carousel and Dino Jeeps. POD also enjoyed Junior Driving School as she got to drive me round. The wilderness area and the live shows we saw on the Saturday and Sunday went down a treat too. We absolutely loved our weekend at Crealy Adventure Park. The safari cabin was just superb and the park was loads of fun too. We’re already itching to go back.
