It was a brilliantly busy week that saw me in London, Suffolk, Norfolk and back to London. It was then a case of re-packing the unpacked bag for two nights away at a blogger conference. Enjoying family time and restoring a sense of calm was essential when I returned. Blowing away those cobwebs is just the best, even more so when your office is also your home. All we needed was a little time out to restore the balance.
Located in Surrey, Frensham Little Pond is another gem from the National Trust. The heath is a site of special specific interest, a special protection area and a special area of conservation. We’d not visited Frensham before but this is what greeted us when we arrived. You couldn’t help but smile to yourself. Already we loved this place.
Although dry, the woodland smelt wonderful and the sun beamed through the gaps in the trees. Armed with sandwiches, sun cream and swimmers, we headed for the little pond hopeful of securing a sandy spot.
It was an idyllic setting that made you want to stop, stare and collect fir cones from the pathway. But we continued, taking in the views as we walked and breathing in that fresh Surrey air. Much as I enjoy London (I lived there for many years), I love returning to the countryside.
Although there were other people at the beach, it was a Monday so we found an area of our own. Aside from the noise of a few children playing, it was incredibly peaceful. And perfect. POD stood by the waters edge holding her dress and taking it all in. It wasn’t long before she asked if she could go in the pond.
The soft sand underfoot felt amazing, the water was still and the birds sang.
After an initial paddle, POD ventured in further to look at fish with Daddy. She then enjoyed throwing fir cones, splashing and spinning round in circles. She loved it here.
I thought it was a wonderful moment when she waded out to see Daddy
but actually this was. A genuine look of joy on both their faces when they met for a cuddle.
When we stopped for a sandwich we saw a grass snake swim by. Frensham is renowned for its rare and endangered wildlife but what a sight!
Having re-charged the batteries POD was back in the water requesting to be spun around. She returned to pouring wet sand herself after that.
We watched terns dive into the water, ducks investigate nearby reeds and Daddy even saw a frog.
Frensham Little Pond has much to offer, we have lots of exploring to do here. Trekking to the Great Pond, walking round the Little Pond and venturing up Snowball Ridge are a must. We should get a fishing rod and do a spot of pond dipping too…! Today wasn’t the day for it but we’ll most certainly be back.
Linking up with #whatsthestory here on PODcast and #CountryKids at Coombe Mill.
